The Wimberley Telephoto Flash Bracket Upright is the central piece in Wimberley's modular Telephoto Flash Bracket system. This is a solid, high quality setup.
A telephoto flash bracket serves a couple of purposes. It gets the flash forward and above large telephoto lenses (prevents shadows). It moves the weight of the flash over the tripod pivot point. It keeps the flash constantly above the lens when rotating the lens collar (putting shadows where you want them - down).
To put together a Wimberley Telephoto Flash Bracket System, you need (in addition to an external flash) ...
Wimberley Telephoto Flash Bracket Upright (this item)
Wimberley Flash Bracket Tilt Arm
Wimberley Flash Bracket Quick Release Arm
The proper Wimberley Lens Plate
Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2
If mounting the Wimberley Telephoto Flash Bracket to a Wimberley Sidekick, you do not need the Wimberley Telephoto Flash Bracket Upright.
The Wimberley Telephoto Flash Bracket Upright can also be used directly on a camera body to get a higher-mounted flash. To use in this way, a Wimberley Flash Bracket Perpendicular Plate and a Camera Body Plate are needed in addition to the above list. The Wimberley Lens Plate is not needed in this scenario.
