Canon EOS 7D Sample Pictures

I was shooting this Chrysanthemum early one morning. It was just wet enough that I wasn't completely satisfied with the results. So, using a small, empty eyeglass cleaner spray bottle, I applied a light mist of water to the mum until the image results were more exciting. This shot was taken handheld.

The low-growing ferns are displaying their fall yellow color while the trees in this Maine clearing remain green. This 1/8 second 135mm shot was taken handheld.

Saint Patricks Cathedral in New York City is a spectacular piece of architecture. The problem, from a photographical standpoint, is that it is always full of people. The solution is to shoot upwards. The other problem is that it is extremely dark inside. Image stabilization allowed this picture to be taken handheld.

Large windows on this house reflect the sunset-caused orange sky. This picture was shot handheld in a crouched position with a 1-second shutter speed.

85mm on an APS-C/1.6x body is a great focal length for head shot style portraits. With this lens, zoom out to 15mm and grab an environmental portrait at the same time.

A little girl numbered "9" performs her part in a stage presentation. The 70-200 f/2.8 L IS lens is a great choice for photographing low light events such as this one.

Green on the ground and a heavy tree trunk 1/3 of the way into the frame anchor this otherwise busy but colorful woods scene.

The sky was much brighter than the foreground in this picture. To bring balance to the image, I exposed so that the histogram was pushed as far right as possible without blowing the highlights. I then stacked the original exposure and a reduced exposure in Photoshop as layers and erased the top layer where it made sense to allow the bottom layer to show through.

Make Asticou Azalea Gardens one of your stops when visiting Acadia National Park, Mount Dessert Island, Maine. Though not large, the gardens are very nice.

A light/misting rain created great conditions for fall foliage photography in Acadia National Park this day. This particular framing avoided the unattractive solid gray sky. A level camera position keeps the trees straight up and down in the frame. This location is near Echo Lake Beach.

The sun sets over the very-photogenic plumes of Maiden Grass.

Having an f/2 aperture at this focal length is simply great to have for low light action. Of course, the amazing image quality and fast AF that come with this lens are excellent to have as well.

As I have said before, getting good images at Saint Patricks Cathedral in New York City is hard. This is not because of the the architecture itself (it is amazing), but because of the huge crowds typically in the building. So once again, I shot up to avoid the other visitors.

The location for this particular Acadia National Park silhouette is on the west side of Sand Beach. I exposed the image so that the brightest clouds were nearly blown (pure white, RGB = 255, 255, 255). This allowed plenty of detail in the shadows for the final adjustments in Canon's Digital Photo Pro.

A yellow-leaf-clad tree growing horizontally curves through the photo while the rock provides a base for the frame. Acadia National Park is full of not-well-known photo opportunities such as this.

Bright yellow and green lobster trap buoys stand out against the wet dock in Northest Harbor, Maine. There are an incredible number of these floating around Mt Dessert Island/Acadia National Park, Maine. Each lobsterman's buoys are uniquely color coded for identification.

The top of Champlain Mountain, Acadia National Park, has lots of great rock formations. And lots of Cairns. Cairns are stacks of stones to mark the trails. The Cairns are typically placed where they are especially visible including locations that will leave them silhouetted to hikers. I was trail running/photographing one evening and liked how the lines in the stones somewhat matched the lines in the clouds, so I made a few images.
