A pre-game portrait. The time to get clean sports portraits is before the game as the players are often sweaty (or wet from their water bottles), dirty and/or tired by the end of the game. Lighting for this shot is from a late-day sun. The camera settings for this shot reflect the action I was prepared to capture - a 1/3200 shutter speed is much shorter than necessary for this shot.

Plenty of natural light in a window-filled room is all that was needed for this full-body portrait.

This is about as close as you want to frame a portrait with a 55mm focal length on an APS-C/1.6x body. Get any closer and that nose starts looking too big in relation to the rest of the head.

A 200mm lens on a 1.6x body works very well for the smallest size youth soccer fields.
