Ask them to run toward you and the smiles come naturally. This running girl was shot in AI Servo AF mode and 10 fps drive mode. The top-most AF focus point was used to track the girl's face. Lighting is from a just-set sun-lit sky.

Want to make a little kid smile? Ask them to run toward the camera as fast as they can. Shoot a few 10fps burst in AI Servo mode (in good light of course) and you get more good pictures than you know what to do with. This shot was taken late in the day as the sun was setting. Oh, hearing the 10 fps burst is going to make you smile also!

See her usually straight hair blowing around the back of her helmet? Her Quarter Horse is at a gallop. AI Servo AF using the top AF point along with 10 fps drive mode and a great lens collected a great number of great shots - even at close distances.

Set your camera to AI Servo AF Mode, select the center focus point only, select a wide aperture and fast shutter speed (increase the ISO setting if necessary) and ... have the kids run toward the camera while you fire away.
