Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens Sample Pictures

This cute little blue-eyed girl is posing just inside an open garage door. This is one of the easiest (and inexpensive) lighting methods for great results. Stand the subject just inside an opening (behind the direct sunlight) and shoot away.

A cloud full of lightning bolts appears to explode in the night sky. When it is dark out, use a remote release and bulb mode to open the shutter until lightning flashes. Use manual mode and set your aperture and ISO based on the brightness of the sky and distance to the storm. Prefocus the lens (on a distant street/night light?) and turn off autofocus. Be warned: lightning is extremely dangerous!

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens is a great event and concert lens. This focal length allows reaching through the group to focus on specific subjects. The wide aperture allows shooting in poorly-lit venues and IS allows handholding at very low shutter speeds. Decent light at this venue allowed me some lattitude to stop down a little for greater DOF while allowing a shutter speed fast enough to stop (mostly) the violin bow motion.
