9/9/2013 - It is because Apple devices do things humans cannot that fans of Apple laptops are emotionally and physically connected to their laptops, as though their laptops are their “second brains.” Ourselves die-hard fans of Apple devices, we just released the ultra thin My 2nd Brain bag collection. The four bags were created with pockets specifically sized for Apple computers and accessories and all the tools needed to support a digital lifestyle. And inside each bag is silkscreened a question for our modern lives: “where would I be without you?”
Each case is built for a specific Mac or iPad computer with pouches and pockets matched to that product’s accessories. The accessory compartments include clear zippered pockets and mesh pouches sized for Apple chargers, cables, adapters and so much more. Even iPhone mobile digital devices or sunglasses have special plush pockets placed for easy access.
Each My 2nd Brain bag is built with high quality fabrics and metal hardware that complements the aluminum unibody finish of Apple computers. The front pocket unzips to expose a padded plush pouch sized for an iPad or iPad Mini mobile digital device, as well as an organizer for pens and small accessories. At the top of the bag is a plush pocket for an iPhone mobile digital device that includes a pouch for earbuds or a Bluetooth headset.
The main zippered storage area is lined on one side with several mesh pouches sized for Apple chargers and accessories. The other side of this storage area is lined with clear zippered pockets to safely hold Apple adapters and smaller items. The rear padded pocket is fitted to hold an iPad mobile digital device or 11”, 13” or 15” Mac laptop. On the rear of the bag is an easy access pouch for documents. Even the removable padded shoulder strap provides storage with a buckle and strap to secure full-size headphones. All of this storage capacity is held in a bag that measures just 1.9” to 2.6” thick, depending on the Apple product for which it was designed.

The third in our "About A Photograph" video series has just been released. In it, National Geographic staff photographer Steve Winter narrates the events behind his gripping remote camera shot of two tigers located deep in a national park in India's interior.
Said Winter, "We got this picture the first day. I wanted to change the lighting when we came the day after, but I looked at my assistant and said, 'We can change the lighting, but we're never going to get anything better than this.'"
Winter has been attacked by rhinos in India, stalked by jaguars in Brazil, charged by a 11-foot grizzly in Siberia, and trapped in quicksand in the world's largest tiger reserve in Myanmar. He started at National Geographic in 1991, which he calls "the best job in the world." We just released the second in our “About A Photograph™” video series. Sports Illustrated staff photographer Simon Bruty narrates the events behind his London Olympics’ image of German Olympic weightlifter Matthias Steiner barely escaping injury when he dropped a 432 pound barbell onto his neck.
Said Simon, “The thing about being a sports photographer, it wasn’t like I created everything. What it is down to is me getting there early, me getting a decent spot, and then paying attention and concentrating.”
During his career, Bruty has traveled extensively to work on feature stories as diverse as soccer in Zambia, golfers in Greenland, and badminton in Indonesia. Somewhere along the way he learned how to make people sit still and developed a diverse archive of portraiture including Michael Phelps with his eight Olympic gold medals, Lance Armstrong, Ben Bradlee, and David Beckham, among other modern luminaries. In 2003, The London Observer chose one of Bruty's photographs to be included in their list of the World's 50 Greatest Sports Photographs.
Think Tank Photo’s “About a Photograph™ video series features some of the world’s leading photographers recounting the stories behind their images that captured global attention. Each short video focuses on the forces that led up to that perfect moment in time when subject, story, setting, equipment, and photographer converged.
“About A Photograph” is being produced by Kurt Rogers and Deanne Fitzmaurice, Think Tank Photo’s co-founders and award-winning photojournalists. The video series will feature current as well as classic and historic photographs that span a range of styles, including documentary/photojournalistic, fine art, nature/environment, sports, and politics.

We just released “About A Photograph,” a free video series at that features some of the world’s leading photographers recounting the events behind some of the most powerful images of our time. Narrated by the actual photographers who captured the images, each short video focuses on the forces that led up to that perfect moment in time when subject, story, setting, equipment, and photographer converged.
The videos will be found at http://blog.thinktankphoto.com/about-a-photograph/
The first video in the series features Agence France-Presse photographer Saul Loeb. In it he narrates the events that led him to capturing the iconic “Presidential Hug” image from the 2012 United States presidential campaign. His photo captures a Florida pizza shop owner lifting and bear-hugging a surprised President Obama. Said Loeb about that moment, “This could end up being the defining photo of the campaign season.”
“About A Photograph” is being produced by Kurt Rogers and Deanne Fitzmaurice, our co-founders and award-winning photojournalists. The video series will feature current as well as classic and historic photographs that span a range of styles, including documentary/photojournalistic, fine art, nature/environment, sports, and politics.
In reflecting on this new series, Kurt noted: “When we photojournalists go out on assignment we never know what awaits us. It is through our training as experts in sensing when and where events will unfold that we are able to capture images that best convey the story.
‘About A Photograph’ allows photographers, students, teachers, historians, and others to get inside the heads of these expert photographers at that fleeting moment of creation. The images being featured range from the beautiful to the tragic, from the humorous to the informative. The one trait they share is that all are memorable and capture the essence of visual storytelling.
We will release new “About A Photograph” videos every three weeks.

Low Rider Strap Split Pad Design Slips Over Rolling Luggage Handles
There is one bond that unites most professional photographers: the burden of having to carry multiple bags and heavy loads from one shoot to the next. To aid you in this task we've released the Low Rider Strap. With the Low Rider Strap you simply slip the split pad design over the handle of your rolling luggage and tighten the side straps. Once having done so you are now able to haul two bags with a far lower and stable center of gravity. This approach is easier than stacking one bag on top of another. This counterbalanced, low-set load keeps bags balanced and prevents sloshing and sliding. This strap can be attached to any bag with D-rings, such as Think Tank Photo's Urban Disguise shoulder bags.

Shoulder bag, chest pack, or belt pack, it does all three successfully.
Santa Rosa, Calif. – In February, Think Tank Photo will release a completely updated version of its popular Change-Up multi-function camera bag. The Change-Up V2.0 has updated sizing and new features. This bag, a chameleon of sorts, can change from belt pack to shoulder bag to chest pack via the harness system. In addition, many Think Tank Modular and Skin Components can attach to the waist belt straps.
The included compression straps provide for a custom fit. The result of all this flexibility is a bag that can serve many uses: one day it serves as a lens changer, another day it’s a conventional shoulder camera bag, and another day it becomes a chest pack. It is this flexibility that makes this bag special and explains why novices to pros love it.
With the ability to carry a standard-size DSLR and a 70-200 2.8, (detached), it has a significant amount of capacity in a lightweight, body conforming shape. Alternately, it holds a standard-size DSLR with 24-70 2.8 attached, plus one to three additional lenses.
“While many camera bags convert from one thing to another, they generally are not great at any one thing,” said Doug Murdoch, Think Tank’s lead designer and president. “The Change-Up V2.0 camera bag is an exception to the rule; it converts from one great storage solution to another.”

The founders of Think Tank Photo today announced that they have launched a new camera bag company, MindShift. MindShift is a group of committed professional photographers and product designers who support conservation and protection of our natural resources and planet.
Founded by our founders and conservation photographer Daniel Beltrá, MindShift is dedicated to building carrying solutions for those who are passionate about experiencing the natural world. The company’s slogan, “Engage with nature,” challenges people to not only become involved in outdoor activities, but to create a conversation about nature and our relationship to the environment.
MindShift’s proprietary rotation180° technology will specifically target outdoor professionals and enthusiasts who work in nature and need quick access to their gear. Their first product that features this technology is the rotation180° professional, a sophisticated outdoor photography backpack that features an integrated waist pack that rotates out of the lower section to the front of the body, allowing full access to gear.
“The problem with traditional backpacks is that you have to take them off of your back or swing them forward to access gear inside,” said MindShift’s co-founder Doug Murdoch. “Utilizing the rotation180° technology, the integrated waist pack rotates to the front of the body and offers rapid access to the contents without having to stop, take off the pack, sling it over one shoulder, or set it on the ground.”
Through Kickstarter.com's online pledge system for funding creative projects, Mindshift seeks funding to help pay for production for the first edition of the new backpack. To view MindShift's Kickstarter project go to:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/134466492/rotation180-photo-backpack
MindShift is co-founded by Doug Murdoch, founder, CEO, and lead designer of Think Tank Photo; Mike Sturm, co-founder of Think Tank Photo; Jerry Dodrill, award-winning adventure outdoor photographer; Daniel Beltrá, award-winning conservation photographer; and Brian Erwin, a former Sierra Club staffer and Think Tank Photo’s marketing adviser.
“Our customers will be the devoted community of outdoors people who use photography to tell important stories and chronicle real life adventures,” said MindShift’s Jerry Dodrill. “They are hikers, skiers, and mountaineers, sports, nature and wildlife photographers, travelers, and scientists who rely heavily on their equipment and are passionate about experiencing and preserving the natural heritage of our planet.
“Our designs are the result of extensive field work by our team of top conservation, nature, and adventure photographers. With their input we strive to build the most innovative and functional products on the market, providing protection and accessibility to equipment in even the most intense conditions. As conscientious manufacturers it is our obligation to make products that are long lasting, repairable, and have the least impact on the planet”
MindShift has a full slate of new bags and accessories in development that feature innovative designs and the highest quality materials.
