Live in Russia? Tamron is coming to you:
Start of a new sales company in Russia
Tamron Co., Ltd. (Morio Ono, President & CEO) announced today that it would establish a new wholly owned subsidiary in Russia for sales and marketing.
1. Objective
Russia, being one of the major markets in the world that has posted significant growths in recent years, has been served by a local distributor. By making the move, Tamron aims to expand sales by enhancing brand recognition with strategic marketing and customer relations by delivering better service. At the initial stage, interchangeable lenses for SLR cameras will be the primary focus, followed by expansion to security surveillance camera lenses, etc. Sales in Belarus and Kazakhstan, allied by the free trade agreement with Russia, would be planned as well.

Likewise, no notable damage has been identified in terms of our three production facilities in Aomori Prefecture, including Hirosaki Plant [Hirosaki city], Namioka Plant [Namioka town] and Ohwani [Ohwani town, Minami-Tsugaru county].
Nevertheless, it is anticipated that certain disruption shall become unavoidable in terms of production activities, logistics flow and customer service, including our plant in China [Tamron Optical (Foshan) Co., Ltd.] as a result of damaged transportation network and systems.

Regarding Inventory Sufficiency of the SP70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005)
Since Tamron released in Japan the SP70-300 F/4.5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) telephoto zoom lens in August 2010, orders have greatly exceeded expectations. Tamron is extremely grateful for this stong consumer response, but an unfortunate side effect has been the difficulty of production volume to keep pace with demand. We would like to reassure all customers who are waiting for this product that we are currently doing everything we can to meet demand levels, and offer our sincerest apologies for such resulting inconvenience.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of Tamron customers as we promptly address these temporary inventory issues. Tamron reiterates its commitment to maintaining the satisfaction that its loyal customers have come to expect over the years.
The lens still appears to be available in the USA - and at $399 shipped after mail-in rebate, the price is right:
