Live in Russia? Tamron is coming to you:

Start of a new sales company in Russia

Tamron Co., Ltd. (Morio Ono, President & CEO) announced today that it would establish a new wholly owned subsidiary in Russia for sales and marketing.

1. Objective

Russia, being one of the major markets in the world that has posted significant growths in recent years, has been served by a local distributor. To take it to the next phase, Tamron has decided to establish a sales company aimed at implementing a full-fledged business development as further expansion of SLR camera and security surveillance camera markets are anticipated.

By making the move, Tamron aims to expand sales by enhancing brand recognition with strategic marketing and customer relations by delivering better service. At the initial stage, interchangeable lenses for SLR cameras will be the primary focus, followed by expansion to security surveillance camera lenses, etc. Sales in Belarus and Kazakhstan, allied by the free trade agreement with Russia, would be planned as well.

2. Specifics of the plan

(1) Company name: Tamron (Russia) LLC.
(2) Address: Unikon Business Center 5F No.9, Plekhanova Street 4, Moscow, 111141, Russian Federation

(6) Investment Ratio 100% by Tamron Co., Ltd.
(7) Date of establishment March 26, 2012
(8) Employees Approximately 10 initially
(9) Start of Operation May, 2012 (Planned)

3. Effect on the fiscal term ending December 31, 2012

Finally! Finally a full frame compatible 24-70mm f/2.8 image stabilized lens has been announced!

Tamron has today announced the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Lens, featuring a max f/2.8 aperture of the entire focal length range along with ultrasonic drive AF and vibration control.

There is no question that a huge demand exists for a lens spec'd as this one. The image quality and autofocus accuracy of this new lens remain the two biggest questions in my mind.

Tamron Co., Ltd.
Announcement of March 16, 2011

Influence on Operations by 3.11 Earthquake That Hit Pacific Coastal Regions of Northeastern Japan

We wish to extend our deepest condolences and prayers to those who suffered from loss of life and casualties among families and relatives by the Tohoku/Off-Pacific Coast Earthquake Disaster that hit the area on March 11, 2011.

In this regard, may we inform you of the current status of the company operations as follows as an initial briefing:

1. Scope of Damage and/or Destruction

(1) Bodily damage to employees
It has been confirmed that no employee sustained any physical damage fortunately.

(2) Status of production facilities
Likewise, no notable damage has been identified in terms of our three production facilities in Aomori Prefecture, including Hirosaki Plant [Hirosaki city], Namioka Plant [Namioka town] and Ohwani [Ohwani town, Minami-Tsugaru county].

Nevertheless, it is anticipated that certain disruption shall become unavoidable in terms of production activities, logistics flow and customer service, including our plant in China [Tamron Optical (Foshan) Co., Ltd.] as a result of damaged transportation network and systems.

(3) Distribution of finished goods
It is also anticipated that certain delay would be caused in delivery of finished goods to customers because of the disrupted production coupled with the slowdown in logistics.

Evidently, it is premature to assess the extent and the scope of the negative impact, please be assured that the entire group companies of Tamron are determined to work collectively and intensively to minimize the damage to our business operations.

2. Potential Influence on Company Performance

While the situation is rather unsettled to make an intelligent assessment of potential influence on our company performance associated with the grossly huge disaster, we will be prepared to make a timely announcement

Tamron Co., Ltd.

Regarding Inventory Sufficiency of the SP70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005)

Since Tamron released in Japan the SP70-300 F/4.5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) telephoto zoom lens in August 2010, orders have greatly exceeded expectations. Tamron is extremely grateful for this stong consumer response, but an unfortunate side effect has been the difficulty of production volume to keep pace with demand. We would like to reassure all customers who are waiting for this product that we are currently doing everything we can to meet demand levels, and offer our sincerest apologies for such resulting inconvenience.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of Tamron customers as we promptly address these temporary inventory issues. Tamron reiterates its commitment to maintaining the satisfaction that its loyal customers have come to expect over the years.

The lens still appears to be available in the USA - and at $399 shipped after mail-in rebate, the price is right:
