From RØDE:

RØDE is excited to announce that it has commenced shipping its new Stereo Bar for precision microphone mounting in stereo arrays.

Spacing between the microphones is clearly indicated on both sides at 10cm, 15cm and 20cm, as well as the critical 17cm distance for ORTF stereo technique. In the middle of the Stereo Bar there is an angle indicator displaying both 90 degrees for X-Y stereo arrays and 110 degrees for ORTF placement, removing the need for guesswork and allowing the recording engineer to set up precision stereo arrays every time.

Constructed from durable PC-ABS plastic the bar can easily support the weight of two large diaphragm microphones at a capsule distance of up to 20 centimetres (7 3/4”). Microphones are mounted via two removable 3/8” threads that slide along the bar, with spacers mounted below the bar that can easily be relocated to the top of the bar to configure stacked microphone pairs.

When combined with RØDE’s Pivot Adaptor accessory the Stereo Bar can be tilted through 210 degrees for optimal versatility.

From RØDE:

The new VideoMic GO is the latest release in the Australian audio company’s successful range of VideoMic microphones for on-camera usage.

Compact and light weight by design, the VideoMic GO delivers clear, crisp, directional audio with incredible ease of use.

Its tight pickup area focuses directly in front of the microphone and reduces other surrounding sounds, ensuring that the user can isolate their subject from distracting background noise. At only 73gm (2.5oz) it is RØDE’s lightest on-camera microphone and sports an impressively compact form factor.

Designed to be as user-friendly as possible, the VideoMic GO has no switches or settings, and is powered by the camera or recording device’s external microphone input, requiring no batteries to operate.

The microphone features an integrated suspension based on Rycote’s Lyre system, which utilises a single piece of thermoplastic to isolate the microphone from knocks and bumps that could otherwise interfere with performance. In addition to its superior performance the Lyre system is hard-wearing and will never wear out, sag or snap, unlike traditional elastic-based suspension.

“The VideoMic GO is the perfect microphone for consumers wanting to get started shooting high-definition video with their DSLR, ‘point-and-shoot’ or even GoPro cameras.” Commented Damien Wilson, RØDE’s Global Marketing & Sales Director. “We’ve all experienced how terrible the audio can be using a camera’s built-in microphone, and the VideoMic GO is the answer to getting audio that matches the quality of the images, without the additional EQ and level features that are available on our other VideoMic models.”

“This user-friendly ‘plug and play’ approach, combined with its lightweight, small form factor make it ideal for carrying in small camera bags, ready at any time to capture the moment.”

From RØDE:

Inspired by the award winning NT5, the new RØDE M5 features a ½” cardioid electret condenser capsule and is available in acoustically matched pairs.

Designed and made in Australia, the M5 exhibits low noise and has a full frequency response that makes it ideal for studio recording and live performance. The M5 is equally at home on a range of acoustic instruments, choirs, or anywhere you would employ a small diaphragm condenser microphone, either individually or as a stereo array.

A result of many years’ experience building the award-winning NT5 microphone, RØDE has succeeded in making a high-quality ‘pencil’ style permanently polarized condenser that will impress even the most demanding of artists and engineers. This matched pair has been carefully selected to ensure a variation of no more than 1dB sensitivity between the microphones. A premium foiled certificate is supplied to verify the authenticity of the pair.

The M5 is finished with RØDE’s proprietary ceramic coating which offers a sleek matt black finish, and is supplied with WS5 windshields and RM5 stand mounts.

RØDE’s Global Marketing & Sales Director, Damien Wilson, commented: “The NT5 has consistently been one of our most praised and best-selling microphones since its release almost ten years ago. As pencil condensers go it is in my opinion one of the very best in the world, however we recognised that a lot of artists want to use a RØDE small diaphragm condenser microphone but doesn’t require the superlative dynamics and versatile capsule interchange found on the NT5. The new M5 offers them an incredible sounding microphone that represents great value.”

The RØDE M5 condenser microphones will be available soon at authorized retailers.

From RØDE:

RØDE Microphones is excited to announce the next iteration of its field recording app for Apple’s iOS devices, RØDE Rec. This update, released to the app store today as a free upgrade, has a number of enhancements including a dedicated iPad interface, MP3 publishing and support for ten different languages.

RØDE Rec has been incredibly well received since its launch in January of this year, where it was the only app on the market to allow for recording at 24-bit/96kHz (using RØDE’s iXY stereo microphone).

This is the first update since RØDE acquired the FiRe app from creator Audiofile Engineering, and signals RØDE’s intention to provide not only the best field recording app for mobile devices, but a platform that rivals dedicated audio field recorders.

The update’s addition of a retina-compatible iPad interface enhances control on the larger device considerably. Users can now view the waveform, transport controls, non-linear editing and much more, all in the one screen making recording, editing and publishing a breeze.

The popular MP3 format has also been added, following overwhelming demand from existing users.

“While RØDE Rec is designed for the capture and sharing of broadcast-grade audio there’s no denying the popularity and indeed the convenience of the MP3 format.” explains Damien Wilson, RØDE’s Global Marketing & Sales Director.

“RØDE Rec is one of very few apps on iOS that supports MP3, and combined with one-touch sharing via dropbox and email it’s a great option when you want to share an audio grab quickly with friends, colleagues or clients.”

This updated version also marks the app’s debut in localised languages, with support for Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (simplified), Japanese and Korean, in addition to English. The localised apps are available on the relevant international iTunes App stores.

An update to RØDE Rec LE, the free, feature-limited version of RØDE Rec will be released shortly, including the dedicated iPad interface and enhanced stability. Download the app now for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch on the iTunes App Store or via www.rodemic.com/getroderec

From RØDE:

5th Sep 2013 – RØDE Microphones has announced the release of the MiCon-11 adaptor cable, which provides connection between the RØDE HS1 headset, PinMic and Lavalier microphones, and TRRS devices such as the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as well as a large number of Android phones and tablets.

This now means that users of these microphones are able to take advantage of the RØDE Rec app on Apple iOS devices, recording high-quality audio direct to their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. With a large scale update of the app to be released later this month, this functionality will be further enhanced.

“The MiCon system was born out of frustration from working with other manufacturers’ wireless systems.” said Damien Wilson, RØDE’s Global Marketing & Sales Director. “With MiCon the idea is to allow anyone that invests in our microphones a versatile suite of connectivity options, so if you upgrade your wireless system or want to connect it to another device you don’t have to buy a completely new mic.”

“Today’s release of the MiCon-11 really highlights the benefits of this system.” He continued. “Since the release of the smartLav in January we’ve been overwhelmed by worldwide demand, proving that this convergent technology is exactly what today’s consumers and professionals alike are looking for. Now with the MiCon-11 we can easily enable users of our broadcast-quality compact wearable microphones to take advantage of the many benefits of recording direct to their iOS device with the RØDE Rec app.”

The 1.2m/4’ cable adaptor also includes a MiCon male-to-male interface to allow it to be used as an extension for other MiCon cables from RØDE.

With this announcement RØDE now offers eleven different interface options for customers to connect their microphones, including wireless systems from seven different manufacturers.

From RØDE:

RØDE Microphones is excited to announce its purchase of the acclaimed FiRe audio recording application for Apple iOS devices, from leading US based developer, Audiofile Engineering.

Audiofile are considered one of the world’s best audio software development studios across all iOS platforms. This acquisition now makes RØDE the world leader in iOS based audio recording innovation and expertise.

Under the terms of the agreement, RØDE has taken complete ownership of the app as well as the fundamental code to continue to refine new and innovative software in this growing market sector. In the next few months RØDE will release improved versions of its existing app based on the FiRe platform, RØDE Rec, and is working on new, advanced hardware.

“When we first looked at the smartphone market as a development area for RØDE, I knew that it wasn’t enough to just make a hardware product. RØDE’s goal from day one was to create a complete recording solution -- a platform that we can build around.” remarked RØDE President, Peter Freedman. “I had known and used FiRe for some time and considered it to be the best field recording app available. So in conjunction with its developers, Audiofile Engineering, we built RØDE Rec to further enhance its already impressive audio capabilities, as well as providing high-resolution support for all our hardware products. In addition to the world’s first 24/96 field recorder for iOS, the iXY”.

“Today’s purchase of the FiRe platform brings all of the IP in-house here at RØDE, allowing us to fully control the development schedule and realise many of the great plans we have for RØDE Rec and our iOS based customers around the world.” Mr Freedman continued.

Audiofile Engineering has built a strong relationship with RØDE over the past eighteen months of development, and is excited to see the application now in the hands of a pro-audio company ready to take it to the next level.

“All of the features that make FiRe an incredibly powerful field recorder for iOS make it a perfect fit for RØDE.” commented Matthew Foust, Managing Partner at Audiofile Engineering. “Creating great audio software is our passion, so we’re elated to see RØDE unite FiRe with best-in-class accessories and leverage their global presence to put it in the hands of even more people around the world.”

Audiofile Engineering will continue to support FiRE customers while the transition is occurring.

From RØDE:

The RØDE iXY stereo microphone for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has been recognised as a product of the very highest design quality by the prestigious international Red Dot awards. An expert panel of 37 judges from around the world, including fashion icon Jimmy Choo, assessed over 4,600 products from 54 different countries and identified the iXY as a creative, innovative and overall outstanding product.

Since its inception in 1955, the Red Dot awards have represented the highest standards of product design. It acknowledges the excellent ergonomics, functionality, longevity, formal quality, durability, aesthetics and innovation of a product.

The iXY is RØDE’s first product offering for Apple’s iOS devices, and features broadcast-quality 24-bit, 96kHz recording. It is the only iOS microphone able to record at such a high quality resolution.

It features a matched pair of ½ inch condenser capsules arranged in a stacked XY configuration, ensuring detailed and immersive soundscapes that are always true-to-life. These are housed in an all-metal chassis that makes the iXY incredibly robust, while also adding electromagnetic shielding.

Its unique combination of portability and high-quality audio capture makes the iXY suitable for a wide range of applications, from recording live music to sound design and on-camera use, through to reporting and electronic news gathering (ENG).

“Everyone here at RØDE is incredibly proud of this honour,” commented Damien Wilson, RØDE’s Global Marketing & Sales Director. “The iXY represents years of blood, sweat and tears, and to have it received so well by customers and critics alike is validation of the entire team’s efforts.”

Peter Cooper, RØDE’s Vice President of Design and New Product Development echoed this sentiment. "We're delighted to win a Red Dot Award. The iXY is designed to be the best product of its kind in the world. To receive such high level recognition is testament to the quality of work by the many people involved."

Professor Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot, pointed out that strong design competence is a hallmark of a Red Dot award winner, explaining, “The winners of the ‘red dot award: product design 2013’ are the protagonists of a highly developed design culture and design industry.”

The RØDE iXY will be on display at the Red Dot museum in Essen, Germany along with all 2013 Red Dot Product Design award winners from July 2nd to 28, 2013.

From RØDE:

RØDE has announced the i16, a surround sound microphone for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch that combines sixteen discrete microphone capsules to capture the user’s surrounding audio environment in broadcast quality.

RØDE’s iXY stereo microphone for iOS devices was released in January, and has already gained critical praise from both musical and mainstream media, including a recent Red Dot product award.

The company is quickly emerging as the leader in microphones for Apple’s portable devices, and the i16 aims to consolidate this reputation.

RØDE’s founder and president, Peter Freedman, explains: “When developing the iXY we were focussed on providing the ultimate in stereo audio capture for iOS devices. But during the project it became that there was a large proportion of the market who wanted to record in complete surround. We’ve taken that seriously and produced the i16.”

The new microphone uses RØDE’s own field recording app, RØDE Rec, to record the sixteen tracks simultaneously at quality up to 24-bit/96kHz.

At the heart of the i16 is an incredible sixteen individual gold-sputtered cardioid condenser capsules, which allows the user a high amount of freedom to record in either surround, stereo, mono, or anywhere in between.

“Once the user records the surrounding environment, software processing inside RØDE Rec will allow them to cancel background noise through phase manipulation of the other channels, working much in the same way as noise-cancelling headphones.” explained Mr Freedman. “In this way the i16 is even more effective at recording dialogue than a traditional shotgun microphone.”

Once the user records the surrounding environment they can then use that track to phase cancel any background noise, very much like noise-cancelling headphones. This results in highly intelligible dialogue and crystal-clear audio.

The i16 is available with both Apple Lightning (iPhone 5, iPad mini) and 30-pin connections. Both are shipping now, with a MSRP of US$399.

From RØDE:

RØDE Microphones is announcing the release of the smartLav, a new lapel microphone that connects directly to the headset jack of Apple iOS devices. Compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, smartLav delivers premium quality audio capture in a compact and accessible form factor.

The smartLav is a professional-grade wearable microphone designed for use in a wide range of film, television and broadcast scenarios, or wherever professional quality audio is required in a discreet, portable format without the complication and expense of additional wireless equipment, particularly where multiple talent is involved. With the smartLav the user simply mounts the microphone on the talent, connects it to the iOS device’s headset jack and records via the RØDE Rec or RØDE Rec LE apps.

By employing a high quality omni-directional condenser capsule the smartLav captures sound in a forgiving 360 degrees, allowing for versatility when mounting and ensuring a high degree of user-friendly operation .

“The smartLav is an exciting solution that makes professional quality audio available to anyone with access to an Apple iOS device,” explained Damien Wilson, RØDE’s Marketing and Sales Director. “For filmmakers or wedding videographers that have struggled to simultaneously record multiple talent this product truly is an incredibly simple and cost effective solution.”

A foam pop shield is included to minimise wind noise and vocal plosives (hard ‘b’, ‘t’ and ‘p’ sounds), as well as a durable mounting clip with in-built cable management. The smartLav has been designed to pair perfectly with the RØDE Rec app for Apple iOS devices, and is also compatible with any iOS audio app that accepts input from the headset connection. RØDE Rec turns the user’s iOS device into a fully-featured field recorder, with a wide range of equalisation pre-sets to suit various recording situations, in addition to professional editing functions and the ability to publish to SoundCloud and Dropbox directly from the app.

“Both the smartLav and the recently announced RØDE iXY stereo microphone showcase the possibilities of the RØDE Rec app as more than an isolated piece of software,” Mr Wilson explained, “but also as a platform and hub for a range of professional grade audio devices. This platform leverages the portability and popularity of Apple’s iOS devices to make content creation easier than ever.”

The smartLav is shipping to authorised RØDE retailers worldwide this month, at a suggested retail price of US$60.

From RØde Microphones:

Step Inside the New RØDE Soundbooth for Broadcast Microphones

RØDE Microphones has announced the release of a new edition of their ground-breaking Soundbooth online application, extending the functionality so that users can hear and compare the complete range of RØDE broadcast and videomicrophones.

Released almost a year ago, the original Soundbooth was the very first online application that allowed users to listen to and compare actual real-world microphones, as they would perform in everyday use.

Featuring tracks recorded by renowned producer and engineer John Merchant and focusing on the recording of vocals and musical instruments in a studio environment, the application has been used over one hundred thousand times and has played more than half a million tracks.

This new edition of Soundbooth offers twenty three different RØDE microphones, including the NTG8, NTG3, NTG2, NTG1, VideoMic, Stereo VideoMic, VideoMic Pro, Stereo VideoMic Pro, NT4, NT5,Broadcaster, Procaster, Podcaster, Lavalier, PinMic, HS1, K2, NT1-A, M1 and M3.

Additionally the application includes three forthcoming microphones for broadcast and field recording that RØDE will announce during the remainder of 2012, and make available for use in the RØDE Soundbooth.

The application is split into five different scenarios or applications that broadcast sound engineers would typically encounter, namely indoor and outdoor dialogue, voice over, acoustic music performance and also live reinforced music.

Each audio scenario offers a wide range of microphones that users can switch between in real-time, to hear exactly how each one differs acoustically.

“We are incredibly proud of the Soundbooth platform and to extend its application to our broadcast and video range is something we are very excited about.” commented Damien Wilson, RØDE’s Global Sales & Marketing Director.
“Here at RØDE we are constantly working on ways to educate our customers on the best mic for their application and with this new broadcast version of Soundbooth that just got a whole lot easier”.

A native iPad version of Soundbooth broadcast is currently in development and slated for release in late 2012.

Visit rodemic.com/soundbooth now to use RØDE Soundbooth for either broadcast or music.
