From Redrock Micro:

Wireless controller offers professional focus/iris/zoom and gimbal controls, is attractively priced, and functions outside Freefly gimbals

Dallas, TX and Hollywood, CA - Redrock Micro today announced the MoVI Commander - a new multi-function mobile controller for Freefly MoVI Pro/XL that delivers remote focus/iris/zoom and gimbal control, operates when not connected to the MoVI gimbal, and is attractively priced. The MoVI Commander is on display beginning today in the Redrock Micro booth at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference in Las Vegas.

Professional and Precise wireless Focus/Iris/Zoom Control
At the heart of the MoVI Commander are industry-standard ergonomics for focus, iris, and zoom. The focus wheel offers refined features including the illuminated marking point, interchangeable focus disks, and adjustable hard stops. Each controller feels comfortable and intuitive, and can be adjusted for personal taste.

Command your Gimbal and Camera
The MoVI Commander is more than a multi-channel lens controller: The dual-axis joystick gives you remote control of gimbal pointing, and the smartly placed record button enables run/stop for any camera plugged in to the MoVI's camera control port.

Seamlessly integrates and extends your MoVI Pro/XL
The Freefly MIMIC plugs into the MoVI Commander as the link to your MoVI Pro/XL, so all the MoVI settings and adjustments you rely on are available at your fingertips. The Commander also addresses some of the MoVI shortcomings, including extending the MIMIC battery life, and lens control without being connected to the MoVI.

Use Outside the Freefly Ecosystem
An extraordinarily valuable feature of the MoVI Commander is the interchangeable Command Module. Unplug the Freefly MIMIC and plug in another module for standalone FIZ, VR, or other planned platforms.

Perfectly Priced
It's challenging to build a great performing mobile unit with all these features: MoVI Commander nails it, and takes it further being the first truly affordable mobile controller for everyone. Special pre-order price is $995.00. A special pre-order bundle including 3 SLS motors for MoVI Pro/XL is $3890.00.

The unique connectivity of the Micro Studio 4k Camera's expansion port gives operators fingertip control over all camera functions directly from the DigiBoom handgrips. The Video Assist offers full-time operator monitoring, recording to internal SD cards and offering SDI pass-through for live broadcast.

From Redrock Micro:

Mobile app and parabolic motorized slider combine to speed setup, enhance interview intimacy

Dallas, TX and Hollywood, CA - Redrock Micro, the recognized leader in affordable professional cinema accessories, today announced the release of the new iOS remote app for One Man Crew Director. The mobile app enables wireless setup and control of the One Man Crew motorized parabolic slider, and adds features for streamlining small crew workflow and enhancing on-set intimacy for interviews. The app is available for immediate download from the Apple App store.

Streamlining Interviews and Enhancing Set Intimacy
The remote app for iOS works on iPhone or iPad, and connects wirelessly to the One Man Crew Director. Once connected, all of the functions of the One Man Crews side panel are available on the app. Building on the remote functions, the App adds new Gesture Screen so camera movement can sync with the interview's tempo and emotion without looking away from your subject.

Benefits of the iOS One Man Crew Remote App include:

  • Faster setup with touch-screen control of all the unit's side panel operations.
  • More convenient operation to start and stop camera movement, change speed, and start and stop camera recording, saving time and effort.
  • Enhance interview intimacy with the new Gesture Screen to sync camera movements to tempo and mood of interview without looking away from the subject or having additional crew on set.
  • Improved support with mobile access to the One Man Crew operating manual.

"The OMC Remote App is fantastic," said Matthew Allard of Newsshooter.com. "It is intuitive and very straightforward to use. This makes operating the One Man Crew Director so much easier. The ability to control your device while standing next to another camera saves you a lot of time and gives you the added versatility of being able to change the speed or modify your parabolic moves..."

Great Interviews for Solo or Small Crews
The iOS remote app works with the award-winning One Man Crew Director, the only parabolic motorized slider that adds camera movement without requiring a dedicated operator while keeping the subject in focus and anchored in frame. This feature makes the One Man Crew Director uniquely well-suited for interviews, reality television, talking head, corporate, and documentary work.

"(We) Love the new One Man Crew Director app. It's really convenient to operate the slider from anywhere on set," said Zach Rutledge, Co-Owner of Songbird Media Group. Songbird Media is a full-scale, state-of-the-art media production company. Songbird relies on gear including the One Man Crew Director to create polished, higher quality interviews for their clients.

The latest version of the iOS Remote App includes an API for developers. Using the API, the One Man Crew Director control can be integrated into third party applications.

The iOS Remote App for One Man Crew joins the Android version of the Remote App that is also available.

Owners of the original One Man Crew can use the Remote app with an upgrade to the One Man Crew Director, currently on sale at $300 discount for a limited time.

From Redrock Micro:

Ability to track and focus on any subject with tap-to-focus ease wins four best of show awards at NAB introductions

Hollywood, CA and Dallas, TX - Redrock Micro, the recognized leader in affordable professional cinema accessories, today announced Halo, a system for video production that solves the challenge of accurate focus control by dynamically mapping and tracking subjects, and providing an easy to use interface for manually selecting or automatically tracking subjects for focus.

Introduced at NAB 2015, Halo was quickly recognized for its potential to shift the industry, creating intense buzz and earning three Best of Show awards.

Focus re-designed from the ground up
Incorporating the same technology cars use for collision detection and avoidance, the Halo Explorer creates a real-time scene map, combining pinpoint accuracy with up to 180 degrees of view. Artificial intelligence precisely identifies all your subjects (people and objects) and tracks their distance and location in real-time. The beautifully crafted user interface shows birds-eye view of all subjects, and enables anyone to tap-to-focus, or drag to follow focus with visual audible and haptic feedback. Halo becomes the technician, handling the intricacies of focus so operators can concentrate on the creative performance.

We often refer to this as our Avatar product, says James Hurd, Chief Revolutionary at Redrock Micro. We had to wait five years for technology to catch up so we could deliver a something that solves focus and does it cost-effectively. This quote references Director James Cameron's famous quip that he waited 10 years for technology to evolve before he was able to shoot the groundbreaking feature film Avatar.

Designed for today's production environments and creative shots
Production never has time for long setups, extra gear, or constant tweaking. The Halo Explorer is small and lightweight, and lives on your camera. There is virtually no setup or configuration, just power on, and you?re ready to go. Halo also performs brilliantly in a wide range of situations: total darkness or bright light (even heavy backlight), with or without human faces. Halo components can be moved between the camera and your remote AC, wherever it makes the most sense. A light footprint and wide range of usability use make Halo intensely practical.

A valuable tool for a crew of one or a crew of one hundred

Productions at any level can benefit from Halo. High-end productions can use Halo for precise reference and focus assist. Solo operators can use Halo for completely autonomous focus tracking. Any amount of assistance or automation is your choice. Whatever your camera and lens, and whatever your level of expertise for focus control, Halo is incredibly effective, easy to use and understand, and profoundly affordable.

From Redrock Micro:

Motorized Parabolic Motion Ideal for Corporate, Documentary, and Product/Tabletop Video

Hollywood, CA and Dallas, TX - Redrock Micro, the recognized leader in affordable, professional-level cinema accessories, today announced the all-new One Man Crew™, a new class of motorized 'parabolic slider' that operates unattended and delivers elegant cinematic motion. The One Man Crew is particularly effective for individuals and small crews who want their footage to stand out and have the look of being shot by a professional camera crew. The One Man Crew's compact design, lightning-fast setup, push-button ease of use, and unattended operation makes it the perfect choice for corporate interviews, documentaries, and production/tabletop video.

Leva FilmWorks, a leading content provider for Warner Bros., Lucasfilm, Universal and others, used the One Man Crew recently as they shot interviews for their documentary celebrating the 75th anniversary of the iconic film The Wizard of Oz. The company regularly shoots interviews with show business giants, from Meryl Streep to Steven Spielberg to Usher.

"Over the years, I've learned how to keep interviewees relaxed and comfortable so the shoot becomes all about what they have to say, not the technical requirements of shooting it," said Gary Leva, president of Leva FilmWorks. "The One Man Crew allows us to enhance our production value in a really elegant way without increasing the size of our on-set crew. It sets up fast, it's quiet and unobtrusive, and it's rock-solid reliable."

Independent Director of Photography Johnny Derango also had the opportunity to use the One Man Crew.

"In preparation for the release of my new feature film 'Lost on Purpose,' we shot behind-the-scenes interviews with our key cast and crew. We wanted to do a multi-cam shoot, but with others conducting the interviews and working in tight spaces, it left me alone to run the camera. The "One Man Crew" took what could have been a boring one-camera shoot and transformed it into a two-camera shoot with beautiful movement that breathed new life into it. Its solid, professional construction and hands-off operation makes it an easy choice."

Patent-Pending Parabolic Motion

The One Man Crew is the first and only parabolic motion system available designed to provide elegant cinematic movements while keeping the subject both in focus and stationary in the frame. Most importantly, it does this without any operator involvement. The 36" long track offers great flexibility and can set shorter limits for motion. The One Man Crew allows for camera speed change in real-time and manual start/stop/change direction with speed ramp up/down for consistently great footage.

Perfect for Corporate, Documentary, Interviews, Product/Tabletop Photography

The One Man Crew is the perfect addition for small crews doing corporate or documentary interviews that require fast setups and great images. One Man Crew can be used with a single camera for a high-end production feel, or on a second camera for cutting between shots with additional footage. One Man Crew's smooth, controlled, repeatable motion is also great for product and tabletop photography and adds that extra sparkle.

Sets Up In Minutes

One Man Crew can be set up and prepared for production in minutes thanks to its lightweight, self-contained design, intuitive laser alignment guides and push-button ease of use. The One Man Crew can be unpacked, set up, and ready to shoot in about a minute by a single person, and can be mounted onto a standard tripod via its integrated ¼"-20 and 3/8"-16 cheeseplate on the bottom of the unit. It also features rubberized feet for low profile tabletop placement for maximum versatility.

Complete Kit With Everything Included

One Man Crew contains everything needed for use and is production-ready straight from the box. The included Heavy Load Tilt Head works with virtually any camera and has the ability to hold up to 20 pounds. One Man Crew is powered by an included AC adapter (with international plug adapters) and comes with a soft carry case for easy transport to and from productions.

Redrock Micro Enhanced Rig Upgrades

From RedRock Micro:

DSLR, Digital Cinema and Video Camera Rigs Get Softer Pad, Tool-less Counterweights, Other Improvements

Hollywood, CA and Dallas, TX - Redrock Micro, the recognized leader in affordable professional-grade cinema accessories, announced today the immediate availability of enhanced camera support rigs that improve performance, comfort and reliability for camera operators. Among these upgrades are the microShoulderPad with FieldTech™, tool-less microBalance QR counterweights, and improved hand grips. The new improvements now come standard on all Redrock rigs, and are available as upgrades to existing customers.

New microShoulderPad with FieldTech Molds to Shape of Shoulder

The completely redesigned camera shoulder pad improves comfort and balance, critical requirements for long shooting days. The new microShoulderPad uses super-tough Cordura® and breathable 3D mesh, and is filled with soft free-forming microPoly beads that actively adapt to each shoulder's shape and slope. The microShoulderPad promotes proper alignment and better stability with this uniquely balanced pressure distribution, and ensures a new level of comfort and support.

microBalance QR Delivers Tool-Less Counterweights and Battery Mount

Building on the success of Redrock's microBalance weights, the newly designed microBalance QR rig counterweight speeds rig balance and stability with one-of-a-kind features.

Weights can be added or removed just by pushing a button, and without any tools. Multiple weights can be added or removed at once. Battery mounting patterns on each weight enable brick batteries (such as Anton Bauer, Switronix, Sony, etc.) to be attached directly to the microBalance QR, making the battery mount quick release as well.

microBalance QR can be set up horizontally or vertically, and can be adjusted for left-right balance in the vertical setup, a capability unique to Redrock. These features result in the fastest, full-featured camera counterbalance system available today.

Enhanced Handgrips Improve Grip, Add Features

Redrock's rig hand grips have also been updated with improved design and features. The new diamond pattern reduces potential for moisture build-up while the soft rubber surface keeps things comfortable. The added double-lock on each grip end offers an additional option for adding mounting points or rig extensions. A popular use of this feature is attaching the microRemote fingerwheel to the grip when grips are inverted, such as on the ManCam rig.

Pricing and Availability

The new components are shipping now and are available on all Redrock Micro rigs at no additional cost. Redrock also offers components individually so customers can update their existing Redrock rigs to the latest features. All upgrades are available standalone or in upgrade bundles. As with all Redrock products, customers can purchase direct from Redrock Micro's website at redrockmicro.com, or from any Redrock worldwide authorized reseller.

From Redrock Micro:

Redrock Micro Launches New ultraCage & ultraBase for Video-Capable DSLR Cameras

Awesome Additions Reflect New Generation of Support for a New Generation of Video-Enabled Cameras

Redrock Micro ultraCage & ultraBase HDSLR Support

Hollywood, CA and Dallas, TX – Redrock Micro, the recognized leader in affordable professional-level cinema accessories, today launched the new ultraCage DSLR and ultraBase support for video-enabled DSLR cameras. The ultraCage DSLR has been called an essential accessory for converting the DSLR camera body into a movie-making production powerhouse.

Next Generation Support for the New Generation of Video DSLRs

Video DSLRs have arrived as legitimate filmmaking tools. Groundbreaking cameras like the Canon 5D MKIII and the new Nikon D800 deliver advanced movie features and outstanding results. However, the form factor of DSLRs severely limits the stability of shots and the ability to adapt accessories that are commonplace for high-quality filmmaking. Redrock products have evolved along with DSLRs and now offer the best solutions for shooting high quality movies with DSLR rigs.

Professional-level Support and Stability

The ultraCage DSLR delivers rock-solid support and stability for DSLR cameras. The ultraCage secures the camera body at three points: screws into the camera base, fastens to the top hot shoe and locks the camera in place with the anti-rotation pin. The ultraCage supports a wide variety of DSLR bodies and has been tested with the Canon 60D, 7D, 5D MKII, 5D MKIII, and Nikon D800/ D800e camera bodies. You will not find a support cage anywhere that is more stable, functional or reliable.

The ultraCage DSLR adds industry-standard 15mm bottom rails for accessories such as a mattebox, follow focus or lens support. The built-in 15mm top rail support is great for adding accessories you want to keep with your camera on every setup, such as camera-top monitors or remote focus motors.

The cage surrounds the camera with 22 mounting holes (standard 1/4" and 3/8") that are perfect for attaching and positioning virtually any other accessory available. The ultra Series of accessories from Redrock can extend the ultraCage with extended top and bottom rails, triple the mounting points and additional mounting plates for advanced accessories such as external batteries, external recorders, audio units and remote focusing.

In addition, the powerPack Universal accessory delivers a powered cage option so all camera-top accessories and the camera itself can be powered from a single, long-lasting source using an external battery.

The ultraCage DSLR and ultraBase are ideal for the following types of users:

  • Professionals using DSLRs for filmmaking
  • Enthusiasts looking to get better results from video DSLRs
  • Amateurs who want something they can start simple with and grow
  • Steadicam, riggers, camera/jib operators needing rock-solid support and stability
  • Anyone looking for better support for their video DSLR

Slim, Contoured Design Molds to DSLR Body, Adds Features Without Bulking Up

Unlike other offerings, the ultraCage curves with the camera's contours and doesn't make it any larger than absolutely necessary. All doors and features are completely accessible, and the cage is unobtrusive enough to stay on the camera even when shooting stills. The precision-machined aluminum housing and available carbon fiber rods keep things light without sacrificing strength.

The Foundation for Any Shooting Style, from Handheld to Studio

The ultraCage DSLR can be used to create any type of rig, from handheld to full studio. Redrock offers pre-built bundles for handheld, shouldermount, and studio setups based on the original ultraCage. Using Redrock's family of 400+ cinema accessories and building blocks, virtually any rig can be created to fit your shooting style and budget. With the ultraCage DSLR, your camera can now take advantage of Redrock's ultra Series of advanced support accessories for sleek, sophisticated camera setups.

The ultraCage DSLR Advantage

The Redrock ultraCage DSLR and ultraBase are the only professional-level camera support to deliver all these key advantages:

  • Superior support and stability for DSLR cameras
  • Form-fitting and lightweight contoured design promotes small, fast shooting style
  • Top & bottom 15mm rails and 22 mounting points for accessories
  • Retains access to all DSLR buttons and doors
  • wireLock protects and converts HDMI output to full size HDMI supported connector
  • Cage provides 360 degrees of protection for your DSLR
  • Build any rig you want with Redrock's family of ultra Series and cinema accessories
  • Can be used for handheld, studio or rigging, and can fast-change between setups.
  • Confidence in gear that comes with lifetime warranty and is made in the USA.
  • Incredibly affordable professional-level gear - starting at $595.

From Redrock Micro:

Redrock Micro Enhances, Expands Line of Follow Focus Units

Years of Experience Advances State-of-the-Art Focus Units for Independent Filmmaking

Redrock Micro Follow Focus Units Line

Hollywood, CA and Dallas, TX – Redrock Micro, the recognized leader in affordable professional-level cinema accessories, announced today the immediate availability of a new family of Redrock-designed follow focus units. The new microFollowFocus family is the third generation offering from Redrock Micro that delivers new levels of performance, a unique “back-to-new performance” adjustable gearbox, and a range of products that can match any budget or feature needs.

Professional-level Performance for a Lifetime

At the heart of any focusing unit is precision performance. Redrock spent the last three years developing a new original-design unit featuring a completely geared, precision-machined transmission with virtually backlash-free performance. Recognizing that all follow focuses settle over time and are prone to develop play, all new microFollowFocus units include adjustable backlash, which can reset the unit’s performance to ‘like new’ condition at any time. The new gearbox delivers exceptional professional-level performance for a lifetime.

Special Features for DSLR Lenses

The microFollowFocus | blue solves the issue that many filmmakers face when filming with HDSLR lenses: the focus ring spins freely, making repeatable focus nearly impossible. The microFollowFocus | blue solves this with an ingenious adjustable 'hard stop' mechanism on the follow focus itself, so every lens now has hard stops. "Hard stops solve a big limitation of shooting with Canon EF lenses," said Ted Coates, DP and owner of Moving Pictures, Inc. "I now have a tool that allows me to shoot with DSLR lenses with a similar level of confidence as traditional video lenses. " The new microFollowFocus line offers additional features for DSLR lenses including support for shorter lenses with its flippable gear box, and when paired with microLensGears gives DSLR lenses the ability to achieve accurate, repeatable, precision focus pulling.

Choose the microFollowFocus to fit your Budget and Needs

The microFollowFocus family is available in three different configurations and price points. The microFollowFocus | blue is Redrock's flagship product, with the features and performance for professionals and enthusiasts. The microFollowFocus | blue Studio adds a second side wheel ("studio" mode) for quickly switching camera sides, and can be added or removed at any time. The microFollowFocus retains the performance and core features of the flagship version at a more economical price.

The microFollowFocus Advantage

The Redrock microFollowFocus family is the only line of follow focus units to deliver all these key advantages:

  • “Back to new” adjustable backlash that maintains precision performance for a lifetime.
  • Adjustable hard stops for DSLR lenses.
  • Reinforced, repositionable focus indicator for assistant or operator focus marks.
  • Add a second side wheel (‘studio mode’) at any time, or switch between single and double sided.
  • Works with both still and cinema lenses.
  • Choice of follow focus unit to match your budget and performance needs.
  • Confidence in gear that comes with lifetime warranty and is made in the USA.
  • Incredibly affordable - starting at $595.

Pricing and Availability

All microFollowFocus products are available immediately from Redrock direct at store.redrockmicro.com and from authorized Redrock Micro resellers worldwide. The microFollowFocus introductory price is $595, the microFollowFocus | blue $795, and the double-sided microFollowFocus | blue Studio $1190.
