From Manfrotto:

Manfrotto is making a huge splash at NAB this year with the launch of our newest product, the Digital Director, the first workflow management processor for iPad, Apple Certified. Come check it out at our booth C6025 April 13th - 16th! This is a brand new, one of a kind product that could revolutionize the way photographers and videographers operate their entire workflow; from the setup to taking the shot and all the way to post production and sharing thanks to the Apple Certified Interface. Simply control the key camera parameters such as the exposure, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, manual focus, white balance and more all from the iPad.

Once all of the parameters are set, feel free to use the interactive focus and digital zoom right on the iPad as well to get the precise focus point of your subject. This is taking the weakest part of the camera, the LCD screen, and enlarging it with greater resolution to ensure before taking a shot your focus is spot on. There is also a focus peaking filter which will highlight focused profiles on the image for additional clarity. When you are ready, press the shutter release button on the iPad to take your shots! Then, use the app to take images straight from your camera and instantly download them to view, edit or share via social media or email.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for the Digital Director. Manfrotto is dedicated to continuously improving the app and adding more and more features! Coming soon, accessories will be made available including items such as cases and sun hoods, as well as a version for the iPad mini.

B&H has the Manfrotto Digital Director available for preorder.

April 9, 2015 – Manfrotto is proud to announce the launch of the XPRO Geared Head. The new 3-way tripod head is designed for amateur and hobbyist photographers who require precise composition adjustments via geared movements, including macro, landscape and architectural photography.

Portability
For passionate photographers requiring precision, especially on location, this head designed by Manfrotto weighs only 750 g (1.65 lbs), but can support up to 4kg (8.8 lbs) of payload. Its Adapto body, a strong and rigid technopolymer, makes this head the most precise, lightweight head that Manfrotto has ever created. This allows landscape and architectural photographers to achieve their images on-location with less bulk than ever before.

Framing precision
Thanks to the XPRO Geared Head’s patent pending micrometric knobs, photographers can achieve their desired composition and refine their selections along a single axis faster than traditional ball heads. The geared movement of the head allows precise, micro step framing on all three axis, with confirmation via the three included bubble levels, one for each axis. The newly designed rotating knobs ensure ergonomic comfort even during extensive usage. Moreover, if the photographer doesn’t need to make fine adjustments, the axis locking system may be loosened with the Quick Movement levers, allowing for free movement along the axis.

Convenience
By using one of the most common photographic plates in the world, the 200PL, the new XPRO Geared Head is compatible with Manfrotto’s most popular ball and 3-way tripod heads including the XPRO 2-Way fluid head, XPRO 3-Way head and 496RC2 ball head. This strikes the perfect balance between quick setup and savings: one plate is always attached to the camera, ready to be used in any situation with whatever photo or video support the photographer has on location.

Made in Italy
The new XPRO Geared Head is designed and manufactured in Italy. Utilizing premium materials and advanced engineering processes, the new XPRO Geared Head features a 10 year Canadian warranty.

The new Manfrotto XPRO 3-Way Geared Head will be available in Canada in late April at the suggested retail price of $259.95.

From Manfrotto:

Upper Saddle River, NJ – July 10, 2014 – Manfrotto, a manufacturer of premium photo and video accessories, unveiled a new travel backpack in its Advanced bag collection: the MB MA-BP-TRV BeFree backpack. Billed as the perfect travel companion to the Manfrotto BeFree tripod, this new backpack features a unique carrying slot in the extendable side-padded pocket that is designed to fit the BeFree and other compact travel tripods.

The interior of the backpack was created to provide durability, flexibility and ease of use for travel-minded photo enthusiasts to carry their photographic gear and personal belongings in one compact bag. As part of the Advanced bag collection, the travel backpack features hard-wearing fabrics and professional features.

The backpack employs the Manfrotto Camera Protection System (CPS), which is designed to provide protection at its most vulnerable spot—the center of the bag, where the lenses are stored. The CPS consists of specially structured 3D foam encasing dividers that reduce shock and absorb and dissipate the force of impact.

It also has a rugged, durable bottom half that’s made of high-density nylon as well as nylon material on the top. It’s carbon detailing ties it in with Manfrotto’s Italian heritage.

The all-in-one carry solution is divided into two main compartments. The upper section is dedicated to personal belongings, while the bottom section has a quick side access. It can fit a DSLR with attached lens, two additional lenses, flash and accessories. Additionally, a 13-inch laptop can be stored in a back compartment. The bag can also be converted into an everyday backpack by removing the main compartment divider. And its extendable side-padded pocket makes it possible to add additional space to the bag by unzipping the pocket to insert a travel tripod.

Manfrotto’s Advanced bag collection includes six basic bag designs, each in various sizes, including active backpacks, tri-backpacks, gear backpacks, active slings, shoulder bags and holsters. Manfrotto’s new BeFree travel backpack is available now at Manfrotto Authorized Resellers.

B&H carries the new Manfrotto Advanced Bag Travel Backpack and BeFree Tripods.

Update: Manfrotto is offering up to a $100.00 rebate if purchasing the backpack and tripod together - see this form for details. (thanks Yoderz)

Technical Details

Until now, if you asked me what I thought Manfrotto's biggest weakness was, I would have told you that it was the lack of compatibility with the Arca-Swiss clamp and plate standard. Manfrotto makes great gear and gives you a lot for your money. I very frequently recommend their products to those on a modest budget, but again, I found the lack of Arca-Swiss compatibility to be a drawback.

That drawback has now been erased. I am happy to report that Manfrotto has begun embracing the AS standard by releasing a new line of Arca-Swiss compatible quick-release mounts and plates.

From Manfrotto:

Manfrotto announces the 290 Carbon Fibre Series

Manfrotto have just announced the launch of 290 Carbon - a new family of carbon fibre camera supports designed to accompany passionate new photographers as they progress and improve their skills.

At that level, no longer a beginner, but not (yet) earning a living from photography, it has always been difficult to find accessories and equipment that offer the right balance of performance, practicality and versatility: cheap "first tripods" are too flimsy and can't be upgraded, but professional tripods have too many features, too many options and are too much of an investment. The 290 Carbon range steps right in to fill the gap in the middle and support the aspiring photographer along the path from hobby to passion... or from obsession to profession.

Journeys to far-flung locations and spectacular holidays are often the triggers to taking photography more seriously, but it's notoriously difficult to find a tripod that's compact and light enough to travel, but stable enough to really help when you get to your destination.

Step into your passion for photography!

KEY BENEFITS

  • Transportable, without any sacrifice in camera stability
  • Durable and built for heavy-duty use, without any reduction in strength or performance over time
  • Optimizable to help get great results across all photographic styles

From Manfrotto:

Hybrid HDSLR cameras and ever-smaller pro camcorders are changing videography dramatically; yet along with the obvious advantages and opportunities presented by smaller, lighter cameras, come new problems to solve: as ENG camera operators use smaller cameras, and photographers are expected to shoot broadcast-quality video footage on their HDSLRs, both groups are finding that their camera equipment doesn’t have the ergonomic form for steady shoulder-mounted or hand-held footage; nor the attachment points for monitors, batteries, light-modifiers or accessories; nor the inherent weight that helps minimise camera shake. SYMPLA is Manfrotto’s solution to those problems: a professional modular video rig system that extends and complements new cameras, allows for stable support and framing, supports essential accessories features, offering versatility and high performance as well as comfort, safety and much simpler and faster set up than existing rigs.

SYMPLA is built for flexibility and speed, so you can change anything and everything easily and quickly: hand grip positions, counterbalance, camera body, lens, accessories, filters, light-shielding angle; shoulder-supported, hand-held, or tripod/monopod-mounted… whatever you need to get the shot, the second you need it. SYMPLA is quick to fine-tune, so even when you need to make changes to your rig on-location and mid-shoot, SYMPLA’s minimal locks and tool-free adjusters will let you get back to shooting quickly. Thanks to our revolutionary camera remotes which fit the rig handgrips, SYMPLA allows precise fingertip control of framing and camera functions without losing the grip position and keeping your eyes on the frame, helping you capture stable, usable, creative footage. And SYMPLA can quickly be extended: whether you start from one of our kits, or from single components, you can build the exact rig you need for the shot, as soon as you need it.

Manfrotto has announced a new L-Bracket.

Looks like a very useful product if you are using the Manfrotto quick release system. I'm still hoping they migrate to or add the Arca-Swiss standard.

In a press release dated 5/28/2011 but actually available only since last night, Manfrotto announces four new 055 Center Ball Heads.

Manfrotto continues to use their own quick release system in these heads. I would love to see them to switch over to the far more compatible Arca-Swiss standard.

Manfrotto has announced the Lino Apparel and Bag Collection. After shooting in 18° temperatures this morning, those gloves look especially nice.

The Manfrotto Stile Bag Collection has also been formally announced.
