Manfrotto US (a Vitec Group company) has posted the following warning to its site:

Buy only from US AUTHORIZED DEALERS and get the benefits of our WARRANTY program.

If you buy from an unauthorized dealer you will not receive any US warranty or technical support. View full list of NON-AUTHORIZED DEALERS.

In the warranty section of Manfrotto's site, the company provides a supplemental warning:
Additionally, if you purchase any Manfrotto product from an unauthorized dealer via Fulfilled By Amazon you will not receive any U.S. warranty or technical support.
Third-party lens manufacturers have adopted similar policies in the past (e.g., Tamron), but what's unique about Manfrotto's warning is that they specifically list unauthorized retailers in addition to the usually-provided authorized retailers.

While the authorized retailer warning isn't necessarily included on their other brands' websites, a Vitec Group representative I spoke with clarified the policy. I was told that the authorized retailer requirement for warranty claims / technical support applies to all the Vitec Group brands, including:

  • Avenger
  • Bowens
  • FeiyuTech
  • Gitzo
  • Gossen
  • Joby
  • Lastolite
  • Lowepro
  • Manfrotto
  • Metz
  • National Geographic

So, if you want warranty protection, make sure you only purchase from authorized retailers.

Vitec Group US Authorized Retailers: B&H | Adorama | Amazon US (3rd party sales excluded)

From Gitzo:

We are proud to inform you about the official launch of our new Monopod range.

Gitzo monopods continue to set the standard for professionals and advanced amateurs. The ideal monopod needs to be rigid, lightweight, extremely fast to open and close, fast and precise in height adjustments for rapid changes in shooting position. Thanks to Carbon eXact and G-lock Ultra, the new Gitzo monopods have all these features.

Rigid and lightweight – Carbon eXact tubes

Carbon eXact tubes optimise fibre composition for each tube size, to make the narrower tubes stiffer, and the wider tubes lighter compared to the predecessors’ Carbon 6X tubes. Series 4 (top leg diameter 37.0mm) models replace the previous Series 5 models; the slimmer top tube contributes to easier gripping and lighter weight, while ensuring rigidity from the stiff Carbon eXact tubes.

Improved ergonomics – new leg locks

G-lock Ultra has even more comfortable operation and reduced risk of dust entering the locking mechanism.

Smooth movement, solid footing - new big foot

The new big foot (diameter 50mm) realizes solid footing on any surface, while providing smooth movement with its integrated ball. This big foot can be removed and replaced by optional feet and spikes. This big foot is also available as an accessory (GSF50M).

From Gitzo UK:

New Gitzo Center Ball Heads

08/10/2015 – Gitzo, pioneer in developing some of the most advanced and revolutionary technologies for camera accessories and supports, is proud to introduce a completely new range of Center Ball Heads, representing the state-of-the-art in the heads’ field and focusing on ultimate smoothness and precision.

The Center Ball Heads are dedicated to pros and advanced amateur photographers and are engineered and developed to be the ideal complements to Gitzo’s top of the range tripods. The new heads are available in three sizes ideal for Gitzo’s Traveler and Mountaineer tripods.

SMOOTHNESS AND PRECISION
The new Center Ball Heads are coated with tungsten disulphide - one of the smoothest materials around. With an extremely efficient locking mechanism and the use of hard metal components under and around the ball, this mechanism provides comfortable friction onto the ball meaning it can be locked with minimal effort while avoiding unwanted deforming or drifting.

COMFORTABLE CONTROL OF MOVEMENT
All three models feature an independent pan lock, making it possible to take panoramic photos or make horizontal adjustments for perfect framing. Friction control is also available in the GH1382QD and GH3382QD. Located in the ball lock knob it functions independently allowing the ball lock to have a quick locking without sacrificing movement and safety

INTUITIVE QUICK RELEASE SYSTEM
The plate is locked with a screw-knob, which makes the system compact, light, and intuitive, while being flexible to accept most Arca-Swiss style plates.

PERFECT MATCH FOR THE GITZO TRIPODS
The new Center Ball Heads have slim, curved forms and are aesthetically outstanding with a triangular accent, and matte grey plated steel top casings. Dimensions and colourings are designed to match perfectly with Gitzo’s Traveler and Mountaineer Tripods.

The new Center Ball Head range features the following:

  • Center Ball Head Series 1 Traveler Quick Release D (GH1382TQD)
  • Center Ball Head Series 1 Quick Release D (GH1382QD)
  • Center Ball Head Series 3 Quick Release D (GH3382QD) – Available mid November

The new Center Ball Heads are also included in the brand new Traveler Tripod Kits, as well as in Mountaineer Tripod Kits.

B&H has the Gitzo GH1382TQD, GH1382QD & GH3382QD Center Ball Heads available for preorder.

New Gitzo Traveler Tripods Range

08/10/2015 – Gitzo, pioneer in developing some of the most advanced and revolutionary technologies for camera accessories and supports is proud to introduce the new Traveler Tripod range. Boasting the 180° leg folding mechanism pioneered by Gitzo, the range is now even stronger thanks to the state of the art “Carbon eXact” tubes.

The perfect travelling companion for photographers when shooting whilst on trips, the new Traveler range features the slimmest Series 0 for the first time, whilst the Series 1 and 2 models feature an improved height.

CARBON EXACT – STRONGER LEGS
The new Traveler Tripods boast the ground breaking Carbon eXact tubes: stiffer than the antecedents’ Carbon 6X tubes, the new tubes include High Modulus carbon fibre, and have larger tube diameters. For example, the lowest leg section of the Series 1, 5-section tripod has a diameter of 40% larger than the predecessor

TRAVELER G-LOCK – SPACE SAVING AND ERGONOMIC
Traveler G-lock is the new, compact leg lock system dedicated to Traveler Tripods. The new, curved external form provides good grip, whilst the internal O-ring achieves softer operation and reduces dust and grit entering the locks. The more efficient use of space makes it possible to have taller tripods with compact folded lengths.

The new range:Series 0 – Models GT0545T / GK0545T-82TQD (with head):

Added to the Traveler family for the first time the slimmest Series 0 is the lightest tripod in the new Traveler range, but thanks to the stiff Carbon eXact tubes it provides a rigid, stable base when in use. It is a 4-section tripod with short closed length and short extended height.

  • Traveler Tripod Series 0 Carbon 4 sections (GT0545T)
  • Traveler Kit, Ser.0 4 sec tripod GT0545T + head (GK0545T-82TQD)

Series 1 – Models GT1555T / GK1555T-82TQD (with head) and GT1545T / GK1545T-82TQD (with head):

The Series 1 tripods are the perfect balance between lightweight when carrying, and height and rigidity when shooting. The 5 section Traveler has an outstanding height / closed length ratio, while the 4 section Traveler is much taller than its predecessor thanks to the space efficient Traveler G-lock.

  • Traveler Tripod Series 1 Carbon 5 sections (GT1555T)
  • Traveler Kit, Ser.1 5 sec tripod GT1555T + head GH1382TQD (GK1555T-82TQD with head)
  • Traveler Tripod Series 1 Carbon 4 sections (GT1545T)
  • Traveler Kit, Ser.1 4 sec tripod GT1545T + head GH1382TQD (GK1545T-82TQD with head)

Series 2 – Models GT2545T / GK2545T-82QD (with head):

With the largest tube diameters among Traveler tripods, Series 2 is ideal for photographers using longer lenses or requiring the highest stability. The feet are interchangeable with Gitzo’s optional feet, such as spikes and large feet.

  • Traveler Tripod Series 2 Carbon 4 sections (GT2545T)
  • Traveler Kit, Ser.2 4 sec tripod GT2545T + head GH1382QD (GK2545T-82QD with head)

Series 2 Monopod – GM2562T:

The Series 2 Monopod now features the Carbon eXact Tubes, the Traveler G-Lock and a new, more stable foot.

From Gitzo:

We are proud to inform you about the official launch of our new Mountaineer tripods – Gitzo’s most popular, ‘all-purpose’ carbon tripod family.

Mountaineer tripods have been developed further to incorporate the latest Gitzo technology which increases rigidity, improves performance and ease of use for professional photographers.

Stiffer legs and structure

More than ever, our priority is to ensure that Gitzo tripods allow photographers to get sharper images no matter what weight of equipment, length of lens or duration of exposure is being used: that means making them as rigid as possible.

New Mountaineer tripods are more rigid than the preceding Carbon 6X models, thanks to the newly developed, innovative Carbon eXact tubes. The new tubing optimises fiber composition for each tube size, including HM (High Modulus) carbon fiber composition (a denser fiber made up of finer individual fibers) in the narrower tubes. Carbon eXact tubes have larger diameters that strengthen the tripods even further, particularly the narrower tubes used for the lower leg sections.

The Mountaineer top spider and column lock are also redesigned for greater rigidity.

Benefits of the new Mountaineer range

Stiffer legs and structure

  • Carbon eXact contains High Modulus carbon fiber and has larger tube diameters
  • The top spider and column lock are redesigned for enhanced rigidity
  • New models are significantly stiffer than predecessors and competitors

Enhanced usability and comfort

  • G-lock Ultra: softer to use, protects against dust or grit
  • New Ground Level Set and leg angle selectors are easier and faster to set up

From Gentec International:

Gitzo upgrades heads and tripod kits with a new quick-release system compatible with Arca-Swiss plates.

JANUARY 20, 2014 - Gentec International, the exclusive Canadian distributor of Gitzo products, announces a new quick-release system that is being introduced across many of Gitzo’s heads, Traveler tripod kits, and accessories. Compatible with Arca-Swiss plates and most other manufacturers’ Arca-Swiss style plates, Gitzo’s new system also offers a number of significant advantages over alternative quick-release systems.

Gitzo’s new system is easier to use during set-up and changeovers, and offers failsafe support of camera equipment. The camera/plate can be snapped into the head from above, which is faster and easier than trying to slide it in from the side. When a Gitzo plate is used, the quick-release system’s secondary safety pin will also engage to prevent camera equipment from falling accidentally from the head, even if the plate locking lever is not fully locked.

The plate also features Gitzo’s new camera screw design. To make it as easy as possible to use, no matter where you are and what tools you have on hand, the screw can be tightened by hand, using a coin or with the supplied allen key. The hybrid system, used on many of the new models, will also take traditional Gitzo C-profile plates, making it especially useful for photographers who already own and use Gitzo C-profile plates as their standard equipment. To accept Gitzo C-profile plates, the adaptor is simply removed from the clamp.

The new quick-release system includes three standard centre ball heads (GH1780QD, $379.95 MSRP; GH2780QD, $479.95 MSRP; GH3780QD, $549.95 MSRP), two Traveler centre ball heads (GH1781TQD, $319.95 MSRP; GH2781TQD, $359.95 MSRP), a Systematic head (GH5381SQD, $669.95 MSRP), and two Traveler tripod kits (GK1580TQD4, $1,039.95 MSRP; GK2580TQD, $1,149.95 MSRP). Accessories are also available and include quick-release adaptors and plates, plus a panoramic disc.

From Gitzo:

Gitzo are proud to inform you of the launch of two updated models in the Traveler tripod range.

Traveler tripods have always been the most compact in the Gitzo range without compromising on stability and sturdiness.
Now we’ve added flexibility to the range integrating a ser. 1 and a ser. 2 traveler without head with a shorter column so to be capable to attach your own compact head.

All updated Traveler tripods are made from 6X carbon fibre with Gitzo’s traditional “noir décor” paint finish used on cast components.

The Traveler range now comprises the following models:

  • GT1544T: ser. 1 traveler without head with shorter column
  • GT2542T: ser. 2 traveler without head with shorter column

B&H carries the Gitzo GT1544T and GT2542T Traveler Tripods.

From Gitzo:

Gitzo introduces the new Ocean Tripods Collection.

Gitzo’s new Ocean tripods are designed to give outstanding levels of strength and stability in some of the world’s most problematic locations for photographers. Gitzo Ocean tripods are resistant to the corrosive power of seawater, humidity and other aggressive natural environments, thanks to carefully-selected raw materials and finishes, and to engineering solutions like sealed leg-locks that prevent mud, sand and dust from entering and gradually wearing away at the tripod’s mechanisms.

Ocean tripods are ideal for supporting high-end, heavy camera equipment in wildlife, landscape, travel and sports image-making where reliability is essential and the right equipment can make the difference between the success and failure of an entire shoot in a far-flung, inhospitable location. Precisely because of their extreme specialisation and exacting engineering, the new Ocean tripods are of strategic importance within the Gitzo range.

The Ocean family comprises four models, covering Gitzo’s Series 1, 2, 3 and 5. The larger Series 2, 3 & 5 models are designed around Gitzo’s recently relaunched (and already award-winning) modular Systematic shoulder element that allows centre components to be interchanged. The Series 1 model, instead uses the latest evolution of the Gitzo Traveler structure, with a shoulder that allows the legs to flip 180° for an extremely compact folded length ideal when baggage needs to be kept to a minimum. All Ocean tripods have leg tubes made exclusively from Gitzo’s top quality 6X carbon fibre. Shoulder elements throughout are made from corrosion-proof aluminium.

Benefits of the new Ocean Systematic tripods for photographers:

DURABLE AND EASY TO MAINTAIN

The specially designed and engineered Ocean G-lock collars prevent sand, dust and mud from entering the leg tubes. Any water that gets inside the legs is expelled by the tube sections, which act as an air cushion.

FAST TO SET UP

Switching centre components is made quicker by the new shoulder locking system, with its tool-free ratchet lever.

SECURE AND DEPENDABLE

You can’t drop your equipment from the tripod thanks to the safety catch even when you inadvertently leave the shoulder lock open.

RESISTANT IN EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS

You can use your Ocean tripod in aggressive environments, in salt water, mud or areas of high humidity, thanks to our careful choice of corrosion-resistant materials and protective finishes.

From Gitzo:

Vintage Collection

After celebrating in 2007 the 90th anniversary, Gitzo continues to recall the golden ages of photography with an exclusive celebratory Vintage collection. This unique collection consists of two kits and it is dedicated to really affectionate photographers. It is a genuine replica of Gitzo Seventies supports, that in those days, like today the Gitzo 6X carbon fiber tripods, represented the cutting edge and most advanced supports in the market. The Gitzo classic logos, the old style graphics and finishing and the stylish details, make these items the quintessence of history and emotion. From a technical point of view, these tripods are a phenomenal combination of old and new features that makes them incredibly versatile.

The upper casting configuration provides a great compactness and a great stability of the upper disc that sits directly on the large casting top end. The two section telescopic column, a key Gitzo innovation in those days, allows for a convenient height adjustment while maintaining a small foot print. These “old days” smart features are combined to the latest and most advanced Gitzo technologies, like G-Lock, Ground Level Set, Anti Leg Rotation, the new 1,2mm Aluminum tube, Power Disc and PTFE treatment for the heads. Both kits come with a vintage bag, a stylish and well designed carrying solutions which meets Gitzo’s tough standards in terms of functionality and attention to details. The bag design and the materials used are inspired to the 60s and 70s golf and sport bags. The classic Gitzo logo enriches and gives an “old fashioned” flavour, consistent with the genuine Gitzo vintage spirit.

The bag shoulder strap can also be used directly on the tripod as a smart carrying solution, embedded in the kit for additional use flexibility. The Vintage tripods are in fact provided with two rings compatible with the shoulder strap clips for a fast and convenient snap-on action. The bag features a side pocket, in genuine vintage style, sized to fit most of compact cameras in the market and any other accessory you might want to carry with you.

The Vintage collection kits are available in Series 1 and 2, four section compact size and include a smart Gitzo display cleaner and a convenient vintage anti dust bag for storage and packing.

From Gitzo:

Gitzo introduces the new Systematic tripod range.

Systematic is Gitzo’s top of the range tripod family, the choice of exacting professional photographers who use long lenses and heavy cameras. Not only are Systematic Gitzo’s strongest and most stable tripods, they’re also modular, with a top casting element that opens and closes to allow each tripod to be configured with a flat disk, geared or sliding centre column, video half-ball adaptor, levelling unit or other specialised centre component.

Now, Systematic has been refined, with significant improvements across strength, stability and rigidity; safety and security; set-up speed, ease of use and ergonomics. New construction and bonding techniques have almost doubled maximum payloads by distributing weight more efficiently to the 6X carbon fibre legs, which also feature the G-Lock system for greater power and ease of leg section locking.

In addition, design details on the distinctive new triangular top casting make changing centre components even faster and safer.

The Systematic range has been extended to cover Gitzo Series 2 in order to offer the advantages of mechanical strength and build quality at a more portable size and b. Each Systematic Series has 3-section, standard 4-section and long 4-section tripods, with Series 3 and 5 also offering an extra-long 4-section model and Series 5 featuring the iconic giant 6-section tripod alongside an ultra-compact 6 section model.

Systematic - the pinnacle of Gitzo technology, craftsmanship and quality.

From Gitzo:

Thanks to its unique expertise in composite materials, Gitzo developed a new High Performance basalt fibre tube. The new tube comes from a radical innovation of the Poltrusion process, the aerospace technology used by Gitzo to manufacture its composite tubes in one single step, starting from the raw fibres.

Fibres are wet in the special resin and then pulled through a high temperature core that generates the tube as we know it. This works perfectly with 6X carbon fibre tubes, while basalt fibres absorb a smaller quantity of resin and this reduces tube density and performance. To overcome this physical limit of basalt fibres, it has been developed a new technology (DRI) to boost a higher quantity of resin into the fibres and increase the tube performance up to 22%, depending on the tube diameter. Besides the High Performance tube, the new Gitzo Basalt Collection offer new sizes and a new look. Basalt tripods are available in Series 1 - 2 and 3 in standard and compact height.

The range also includes a new monopod and a microphone boom, both in a convenient 6 section compact size. The new basalt introduces a new colour scheme: black and flame orange, inspired by the basalt itself, a black rock that comes from the Earth lava core.

The basalt collection is completed by three centre ball heads in the new black and flame orange colour scheme to perfectly match basalt tripods and monopod. Basalt fibre tripods, monopod and boom come with the same features of the top of the range 6X models, such as G-Lock, ALR, Ground Level Set, Power Disk, third ground level leg spread and self locking feet among the others. Basalt tripods come with a smart Gitzo display cleaner and a convenient anti dust bag for storage and packing.
