Project 1709 - key features
From Canon UK:
Canon develops feature upgrade for the world’s first 4K DSLR, the EOS-1D C
United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 30 January 2013 – Canon today announces the development of a new feature upgrade for the ground-breaking EOS-1D C. The upgrade has been developed taking into account feedback from the European professional video community, and adds support for 25p recording at the camera’s maximum 4K resolution.
Designed for the motion picture, television and high-resolution production industries, the EOS-1D C is the world’s first DSLR to support 4K video capture. It offers a unique, highly portable package optimised for ultra-high quality recording, delivering exceptional low light performance and film-like dynamic range from a highly-compact body that can be used in a wide-range of shooting situations.
The EOS 1D-C captures 4K (4,096 x 2,160) video using 8-bit motion JPEG compression, with the ability to simultaneously output an uncompressed Full HD (1920x1080) YCbCr 4:2:2 signal to an external recorder via its HDMI terminal. Full HD video can also be recorded direct to CF cards at frame rates of up to 1080/60p, whilst Canon Log Gamma ensures video is rich in exposure latitude and dynamic range – offering outstanding freedom for video professionals during shooting, and for colourists in post-production.
The new feature upgrade will be available free of charge from April 2013.

From EOS Magazine:
Whilst much of the buzz at Photokina is always around camera launches, Canon had something different to announce this year. Project 1709 is the working title for a new image management platform from Canon. Currently in beta phase, Canon is inviting photographers to register their interest for Project 1709 prior to the full launch in 2013.
The platform is a cloud-based service which promises to bring together and organise all of your images, regardless of their source (social networks, computers, elsewhere in the cloud). You will be able to tag and filter your images, using meaningful personal tags, EXIF data, geotagging, dates and device information. If the same image is stored in several different locations, advanced image matching technology will identify these duplicate images. It promises to be an intelligent and sophisticated image management and sharing service for the digital age.
You can register your interest at:
www.project1709.com/
Note: It does not look like you can register yet if you live in the United States.

Canon UK has announced that its Pro Solutions 2011 show – a two-day event for photography, video, and broadcast professionals – will be held on 25 and 26 October 2011 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.
Now in its third year, Pro Solutions has been designed to be the largest and most comprehensive consumer-focused exhibition of Canon’s imaging products where visitors can experience Canon’s complete workflow solutions, from image capture to output. Its aims are to educate and inspire visitors and to demonstrate to them how Canon technologies, and those of compatible products, can be used in their digital workflow to generate increased revenue and business.
The Pro Solutions 2011 show will be centred on extensive displays of Canon products, including professional DSLR cameras, L-series lenses, pro HD camcorders, large format and A3 inkjet printers, and broadcast lenses. Visitors will have the opportunity to see live demonstrations of professional workflow solutions, plus there will be a comprehensive schedule of free seminars given by Canon Ambassadors and renowned photographers and filmmakers from a wide spectrum of genres.
The convergence of stills and video technology will be an extremely important element of the show and visitors will be able to gain a greater understanding of how to develop and evolve their businesses in a rapidly changing market. As in previous years there will be a wide range of companies at the show who provide tailored products, services and solutions to professionals, and visitors will be able to ‘try and buy’ products at the show.
Susie Donaldson, Consumer Marketing Director, Canon UK and Ireland said: "We are delighted that the Pro Solutions show will return again in 2011. The feedback from visitors and exhibitors from last year’s show was very positive. Last year professional image makers used the show to get hands-on with the entire Canon professional range, and the information shared at the seminars and live demonstrations gave them a vital insight into how to maximise their business potential. Canon is proud of our unique proposition of image-capture to image-output, and the content for this year’s Pro Solutions Show 2011 looks set to be really exciting."
Entrance to Pro Solutions will be free for all those who pre-register online. The show opening times will be from 11am to 8pm on Tuesday 25 October and from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday 26 October.
