LOS ANGELES – Today at Adobe MAX, the Creativity Conference, Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) announced major updates to Creative Cloud applications including Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC, Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, Premiere Pro CC and Adobe XD. Adobe also introduced Adobe Premiere Rush CC, the first all-in-one, easy-to-use video editing app for social media creators, simplifying video creation and sharing on platforms including YouTube and Instagram. Adobe previewed new iPad versions of Adobe Photoshop CC and Project Gemini, a drawing app, reinforcing the company’s commitment to delivering high-performance apps that work seamlessly across surfaces.
“Today, we unveiled a portfolio of next-generation creative apps that deliver meaningful value to our community by transforming creative workflows across devices and platforms,” said Scott Belsky, chief product officer and executive vice president, Creative Cloud, Adobe. “By continuing to innovate in our flagship apps, extending into exploding segments such as experience design and social video creation, and pioneering in emerging mediums like touch, voice, 3D and augmented reality, Adobe Creative Cloud has truly become the creativity platform for all.”
Expanding Innovation Across Creative Cloud Applications and Services
Adobe introduced major updates to its desktop applications, including: a new Content-Aware Fill workspace in Photoshop CC; performance and workflow improvements across Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic; the ability to design with photorealistic, Freeform gradients in Illustrator CC; a powerful Content-Aware Fit in InDesign CC; the power to instantly create and animate unique, stylized puppets using a webcam and reference artwork with Character Animator’s new Characterizer; a new rendering engine for improved render preview performance in Dimension CC; and new Sensei powered search features and exclusive content in Adobe Stock, including a new library of clips from GoPro. Adobe XD, the all-in-one UX/UI solution for designing websites and mobile apps, now features new capabilities leveraging recently acquired Sayspring technology to empower designers to prototype experiences and apps for voice-powered devices, such as Amazon Echo. New voice capabilities, including voice triggers and speech playback, enable designers to create powerful experiences with screen and voice prototyping now in one application. In addition, developers can now leverage Adobe XD APIs to build plug-ins and app integrations that add new features, automate workflows and connect XD to the tools and services designers use every day.
Unleashing Social Video Content Creators with Premiere Rush CC
Designed specifically for online video creators, Premiere Rush CC integrates capture, intuitive editing, simplified color, audio and motion graphics with seamless publishing to leading social platforms, such as YouTube and Instagram, all together in one easy-to-use solution. With Premiere Rush CC, content creators do not have to be video, color or audio experts to publish professional-quality videos. Premiere Rush CC harnesses the power of Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, offers built-in access to professionally designed Motion Graphics templates in Adobe Stock to get started quickly and features a Sensei-powered, one-click auto-duck feature to adjust music and normalize sound. From the Adobe Blog:
By Sharif Karmally
Sr. Product Marketing Manager, Creative Cloud for Education
05-03-2018 – I'm inspired by the educators I meet around the world who use technology to improve the way students learn and build creative problem-solving skills. Our research showed that this is important to nearly every educator and policymaker because professions which require creative problem-solving are less likely to be impacted by automation, and more likely to pay high salaries.
The study also confirmed that many of the barriers to teaching these skills that I’ve seen in classrooms are universal — some of the biggest of which are limited budgets, access to technology, and time to learn new apps. As teachers shift their classrooms to incorporate creative projects that build these skills, we at Adobe are also shifting our offerings to give them an affordable, easy, and quick way to succeed.
In January, we announced we were providing access to Spark for Education, a set of storytelling apps with premium features and additional capabilities for K-12 and higher education institutions, free of charge. And now, we’re pleased to announce that beginning May 15, 2018, the full suite of Adobe Creative Cloud apps will be available to K-12 schools via their authorized Adobe reseller for $4.99 per user license, per year, with a minimum purchase quantity of 500 licenses for a single school, or 2,500 licenses for a school district.
Like Spark for Education, Creative Cloud for K-12 provides a method for schools to deploy licenses to students of any age in a way that is consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other data privacy laws. And, it can be set-up with a single sign-on so that students and teachers can use their existing school ID to access Creative Cloud.
What I’m most excited about is that it allows students to access apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, XD, and more, wherever they are — and on any device. I recall visiting a high school class where the students were creating posters for a social cause they care about using Photoshop. They were so excited to have a visitor from Adobe, they all applauded. But then a hush fell over the room, and one of them asked their teacher, “How will I finish my project if we can’t work on it during this class?” Talking to the teacher more, I learned that because access to Creative Cloud was limited to the computer lab, they had to dedicate much of their class to students working on their project. They could not spend as much time as they wanted teaching students the principles of design and visual communication. With the new user licensing we are announcing today, students can continue working on projects at home, and on any device, simply by logging in and opening the apps and services they need.
In addition to making Creative Cloud affordable, Adobe is working to provide additional professional development resources to educators, in partnership with Edcamp, an organization dedicated to building and supporting communities of empowered educators. Together, we will be bringing educators together to share projects and courses focused on implementing creative problem-solving in the classroom. And beginning next year, Adobe will begin conducting hands-on professional development workshops, both in schools around the country and online, to teach educators new project-based use cases for Adobe Spark and Creative Cloud. This is all in addition to the Adobe Education Exchange, a place where educators can access free courses, workshops, and teaching materials.
We are on an exciting journey, collaborating with educators to empower the next generation to be lifelong creators. With these two new offers, Spark for Education and Creative Cloud for K-12, we’re equipping teachers with the apps, training, and support they need to make this happen. We can’t wait to see all of the amazing things students create on their journey to becoming the creative problem solvers of the future.

Issues fixed in Lightroom Classic CC 7.3.1 (April 2018 release)
Known issue
(Only on macOS) When backing up your catalogs on macOS, Lightroom Classic doesn't compress (zip) catalogs that have a file size less than 4 GB. As a workaround to this issue, manually compress the backed up catalog files. Compressed files take up less hard disk space. By default, Lightroom Classic saves backed up catalogs to the following location on macOS:
/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/[catalog name]/Backups

Adobe quietly added support for Sony's Pixel Shift Multi Shooting .ARQ files in a recent update to ACR (Adobe Camera RAW). Unfortunately, the .ARQ files cannot be created in ACR, so you still need Imaging Edge to create the merged files. But once they're merged, you can edit them in ACR just like any RAW file.
B&H carries Adobe Photography Plan subscriptions.
Adobe has updated Camera RAW by incorporating the Camera Profiles (now simply called "Profiles") section (previously found on the Calibration tab) with the basic tab where Exposure, Contrast, Highlights & Shadows adjustments are made.
Surprising is that Adobe has changed the default profile for RAW files to something new – Adobe Color – which features warmer reds, yellows and oranges and increased contrast compared to the previous default, Adobe Standard.
Note: If you have created custom camera profiles with an X-Rite Color Checker Passport, you can find them under the "Profiles" section after clicking "Browse Profiles." However,if you choose the "Legacy" section, you'll see previews of Black & White versions of your custom profiles (for some reason). [Sean]

From Adobe:
Today we are excited to announce the release of Photoshop 19.1, with improvements for customers on both Mac and Windows. Here is a quick list of all the new features. Read about the complete release below or scroll to your favorite parts:
Windows High-Density Monitor Support
With this release, Photoshop on Windows 10 Creator’s Edition now offers a full range of choices for UI scale factors from 100% through 400%, in 25% increments. This means that the Photoshop user interface will look crisp, beautiful, and the right size no matter the density of your monitor. Photoshop will now automatically adjust itself based on your Windows settings, making it simple to set up.
We collaborated closely with Microsoft to enable this important functionality so you (and I) can wring maximum value out of every tiny pixel on our high-end, high-density screens. This is one of the top requests from Photoshop customers on Windows devices. It’s been a huge improvement for me on my screens, and I hope it is for you, too.
In addition, we worked very closely with Microsoft to provide per-monitor scaling across monitors with different scale factors. This means that a high resolution (HiDPI) laptop now works seamlessly alongside a lower resolution desktop monitor (or vice versa). One monitor can have a scale factor of 175% and another a scale factor of 400%. This allows Windows users to choose either the highest-end 13-inch laptops with 4k screens, the more affordable 1080p models, or tap into the new 8k desktop monitors, each with an uncompromised experience within Photoshop. It is wonderful to work with Microsoft and its hardware partners to make that long-desired WYSIWYG dream come true.
“The desire to support and create beautiful experiences is something the teams at Adobe and Microsoft have in common. It’s one of the reasons we’ve been working together closely to ensure Photoshop scales perfectly on any Windows 10 device, from the 12.3-inch Surface Pro all the way to the 28-inch Surface Studio. Details matter, both in the creation of products and the creation of art, and we’re excited to continue our partnership to deliver visually exquisite experiences for all our shared customers,” said Panos Panay, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Devices.
For resolution geeks who want to know more about pixels and density, go here.
While I was focused on pixels, the rest of the Photoshop team was also hard at work and today we deliver even more exciting and useful new features for both Mac and Win customers, including:

Select and Mask Improvements
A decontamination slider has been added to Select and Mask that allows the user to control the amount of decontamination applied to an image. This feature was also available in Refine Edge and has now been brought to the Select and Mask workspace.
Better SVG compatibility with Adobe XD
Previously, when copying text with multiple styles and effects, only the first-used style was getting copied. Now, when Photoshop users copy and paste SVG from Photoshop to XD, multiple text styles and effects are supported.
Improved Microsoft Surface Dial support
Now you can change brush settings while you paint using the Microsoft Surface Dial. Previously, brush settings could only be changed between brush strokes. Now you can assign the Microsoft Surface Dial to control opacity and then adjust opacity as you paint. Assign any dynamic control in the Brush Settings panel to Microsoft Surface Dial, including size, roundness, angle, scatter, texture depth, foreground and background color, opacity, flow, wetness, and mix.
Microsoft Surface Dial support is no longer a Technology Preview. (Learn more about tech previews here.) It is now enabled for all users. Enjoy!
Customer-Reported Bugs
This release also fixes a long list of customer-reported bugs. You can see the full list here.
After 21 years on the Photoshop team, every new release is still a pleasure to deliver to our customers. Thank you for continued support.

Please note, there will be no additional updates after 6.14 for the perpetual, standalone version of Lightroom. You can check out this blog post for more information when this was announced earlier.
As always, new cameras are supported for legacy versions of Lightroom, Photoshop, Bridge, After Effects, and Photoshop Elements through the free Adobe DNG Converter.
For native camera raw support and ongoing updates with new features try out Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC. These features include color and luminance range masking and the new auto. This along with other future imaging and performance enhancements are automatically included with a membership.
Find the latest available downloads of Lightroom 6 here. If you have a Creative Cloud plan of any type, you do not need to purchase Lightroom 6.
You can also find the new cameras and lens profiles that are now supported with 6.14.
Thanks!

The new Auto is available ecosystem wide, including in Lightroom CC, Lightroom CC for iOS, Lightroom CC for Android, Lightroom CC on the web, Lightroom Classic, and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).
The December update includes other great features across the ecosystem:

In addition to the new Auto described above, we added the following to Lightroom CC on iOS:
Lightroom Classic and Adobe Camera Raw
In addition to the new Auto described above, we’ve made a refinement to the Color Range Masking tool. Based on your feedback, we’ve made it easier to remove individual sample points. You can do this by holding down the Alt (Win) or Option (Mac) key while using your mouse to select the sample point.
Lightroom Classic CC also now supports tethered capture with the Nikon D850 camera.
An update to Lightroom 6 for perpetual licensed customers for new camera support will be available on December 19th.
We’ve excited about the December update, and can’t wait to hear your thoughts and feedback.
