 Wednesday, December 4, 2013

From DxO:

December 4, 2013 – DxO Labs announces the immediate availability of DxO Optics Pro v9.1 for Mac and Windows, an update of its image processing software for all demanding photographers. DxO Optics Pro v9.1 enhances its revolutionary PRIME denoising technology that restores the finest details in images even at the very highest sensitivities; provides support for eight new cameras; integrates the features of new DxO FilmPack v4.5 in plugin mode; and includes a new Export to Facebook option.

Even more spectacular images
DxO Optics Pro v9.1’s PRIME (Probabilistic Raw IMage Enhancement) technology has been enhanced to obtain an even more detailed rendering, particularly at high ISO. Textures and details are better preserved, and noise is eliminated more efficiently.

A DxO Labs’ exclusive denoising technology, PRIME, has been designed to achieve unrivaled image quality. Its algorithms analyze the structure of RAW images in depth: for each pixel, nearly a thousand neighboring pixels are studied in order to identify similarities and to reconstruct information. This unusual denoising produces spectacular results: details, color saturation (particularly in dark zones), and textures are preserved for a natural-looking rendering.

With PRIME denoising technology, DxO Optics Pro 9 offers a gain in image quality of up to one stop beyond the best noise reduction algorithms currently available on the market.

Support for new cameras and new DxO Optics Modules available
DxO’s laboratories calibrate the most recent equipment on the market. This means that DxO Optics Pro v9.1 supports the following eight new cameras: the Sony Alpha 7R (Elite edition only) and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 (Elite edition only); the Nikon D5300, the Pentax K-500, the Canon PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120, the Panasonic Lumix GX-7, and the Sony NEX-5T.

DxO Optics Pro v9.1 also benefits from the addition of new DxO Optics Modules: nearly 500 new camera/lens combinations round out the library, which now contains more than 16,000 available modules. Developed in the lab, these modules contain exhaustive information about the characteristics of each camera and lens so as to automatically correct distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations, and lens softness (lack of edge-to-edge sharpness) with an unmatched level of quality.

Faster display for greater productivity
DxO Optics Pro v9.1 is now faster for greater user comfort. Images now display instantly, facilitating sorting and speeding up photographers’ workflow.

All the creativity of DxO FilmPack v4.5 applied to RAW images
With DxO FilmPack in plugin mode (and thus without quitting the DxO Optics Pro interface), photographers can give their photos a unique look by directly applying to their RAW images the characteristics of any of dozens of analog films, as well as numerous filters, tonings, and visual effects — all of which they can customize in an infinite number of ways.

Integrating the latest features of DxO FilmPack v4.5, DxO Optics Pro v9.1 offers two additional new analog films – the legendary Agfa Scala 200x and Kodak Ektar 100 – as well as new Designer renderings and enhanced frame and light leak tools.

New Export to Facebook option
DxO Optics Pro v9.1’s new Export to Facebook option lets users share their photos via the popular social network. Photographers can publish their photos directly from RAW images, with processing and uploading combined into a single operation.

Availability and prices
The Standard and Elite editions of DxO Optics Pro 9 for Mac and Windows are now available at photo resellers at a special discount price through December 25, 2013:

From DxO:

Free download through November 3, exclusively in the Mac App Store

October 30, 2013 – DxO Labs announces the immediate availability of DxO Perspective for Mac OS X, its exclusive application designed to correct perspective and horizon problems. Thanks to its system of applying anchor points directly on images, DxO Perspective offers a simple and innovative solution that puts its powerful geometric corrections into the hands of all photographers, even beginners. Indispensable for architectural and landscape photography!

DxO Perspective is available exclusively in the Mac App Store as a free download through November 3, 2013.

Easy yet powerful perspective corrections
In architectural or urban photography, depending on the position of the photographer with respect to the scene, buildings? vertical and horizontal lines can lose their parallelism. With DxO Perspective, making buildings plumb again has never been easier: users simply place the anchor points directly on the image along the lines they want to correct, and unnatural façades instantly return to their original appearance.

DxO Perspective corrects all kinds of perspective problems, even the most complex. Using its Rectangle tool, when a photo contains two perspective flaws, DxO Perspective?s Rectangle tool immediately reestablishes a full-frontal view of the object ? essential when shooting a photo of a poster or painting! In 8-point correction mode, DxO Perspective handles even more complex perspectives: the independent placing of horizontal and vertical guidelines provides highly precise corrections on multiple planes.

With just one line, DxO Perspective also restores balance and authenticity to landscape photos by perfectly straightening a slanted horizon.

Full-frame photos
Regardless of the corrections applied, DxO Perspective keeps photos full-frame, thanks to its automatic cropping feature that optimizes the visible field. Users can also customize the framing to highlight a particular element. A composition grid facilitates precise adjustments.

Advanced settings
Serious photographers can also adjust the intensity of the correction and the horizontal/vertical ratio according to their own tastes.

Availability and special introductory offer
DxO Perspective for Mac OS X is immediately and exclusively available in the Mac App Store. To access the application, click here. The software is free through November 3, 2013, instead of priced at $19.99?.

DxO gave me the opportunity to test drive Optics Pro 9 Elite Edition before its release. The noise reduction technology is very good, although the "PRIME" noise reduction algorithm takes a substantial amount of time and computing power. So much time, in fact, that denoising runs continously in the background and will only allow you to see its effects on a small preview section of the image before it is saved.

Even so, I was very impressed with DxO Optics Pro 9. They've done a good job at reducing noise while preserving a good amount of detail in the image - even with their standard (non-PRIME) desnoising compared to previous Optics Pro editions. [Sean]

From DxO:

With its award-winning and unrivaled image processing quality, DxO Optics Pro definitively emerges as the software of reference for the most demanding photographers

Special introductory offer through November 20, 2013

October 23, 2013 - DxO Labs announces the immediate availability of DxO Optics Pro 9, the major new version of its image-processing software. DxO Optics Pro 9 introduces PRIME, a revolutionary noise reduction technology whose spectacular performance produces detailed and vividly-colored images even under the most extreme shooting conditions.

Based on DxO Labs' exclusive approach of prior calibration of equipment in its laboratories, DxO Optics Pro integrates many powerful tools for automatically processing RAW and JPEG images: precise optical and geometric corrections, intelligent optimization of exposure and contrast, preservation of colors and details. Its numerous presets can be adapted to photographers' personal tastes and will help them bring out the best in their photos in just a few clicks.

Breathtaking images, even at extremely high ISO

Thanks to PRIME (Probabilistic Raw IMage Enhancement) denoising technology, which analyzes the structure of RAW images in depth in order to differentiate between noise and fine details, DxO Optics Pro 9 offers a gain in image quality of up to one full stop over the best noise reduction algorithms currently on the market.

"In contrast to the usual approach of finding a better compromise between image quality and execution speed, we have created a tool whose sole purpose is to obtain the best image quality possible," explained Frédéric Guichard, Chief Scientific Officer of DxO Labs. "For each pixel, more than a thousand neighboring pixels are analyzed. This vast exploration allows DxO Optics Pro to identify similar data that can serve to reconstruct image information. Several minutes may be required to do this, but this process takes place in the background, so users can work on other images and projects while they wait for the results."

PRIME technology results in truly spectacular images: noise is suppressed, and textures, details, and color saturation are preserved, particularly in shadows, for a beautifully natural look.

For photographers who prefer to denoise their images immediately, DxO Optics Pro 9 still offers a newly-improved high-quality "classic" denoising tool that produces finely-detailed renderings quickly, even at the highest sensitivities.

Unrivaled highlight management and color rendering

The exclusive DxO Smart Lighting feature optimizes the overall contrast of an image by intelligently adapting to its contents. This tool has been further improved in DxO Optics Pro 9, which now offers even more powerful highlight management: details that once were thought lost are revealed, even when the information is missing in the original RAW data, and colorimetric errors are minimized.

DxO Labs' highly precise knowledge of the way each camera reproduces color allows DxO Optics Pro to emulate the rendering of any camera on RAW images. DxO Optics Pro 9 goes even further by proposing a new color rendering called "DxO Portrait," which preserves skin tones and naturally-saturated colors.

New visual presets

DxO Optics Pro 9's library of presets has been completely redesigned. Portrait, Landscape, Black & White, Single-shot HDR: the new DxO presets respond to different use cases that photographers frequently encounter, and are supplemented by "Atmospheres," a new set of creative renderings.

A new visual presets window makes it easier for users choose which preset to apply to their images by letting them preview thumbnails of the rendering effects prior to application.

New export tools

DxO Optics Pro 9 simplifies its workflow by allowing photographers to go directly from customizing their images to using and sharing them.

The "Export to Disk" feature lets users generate and save JPEG, TIFF, and DNG images in just a few clicks. The new "Export to Application" feature groups into a single transaction both processing and opening images in an external application, such as other DxO software products or other editors that specialize in photo retouching, panoramic shots, HDR, and cataloguing. Finally, the "Export to Flickr" feature adopts this same new approach, letting users process and publish their photos directly online in just one step.

Even more comfortable and productive

The DxO Optics Pro interface has undergone another evolution, with a new workspace that highlights essential correction tools, optimizes vertical space, and reorganizes toolbars and palettes in an even more logical fashion. Further, it is now possible to access context-sensitive help directly in the correction palettes.

Availability and special introductory offer

The Standard and Elite editions of DxO Optics Pro 9 for Mac and Windows are now available at photo resellers at a special discount through November 20, 2013:

  • DxO Optics Pro 9 Standard Edition: $99 instead of $169

From DxO:

June 25, 2013 – DxO Labs announces the immediate availability of DxO FilmPack v4.0.2, its celebrated film simulation and creative rendering software. This update allows DxO FilmPack 4 to interact perfectly with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.

With DxO FilmPack v4.0.2, users of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 can apply to their digital images all of the characteristic color, contrast, and grain of dozens of analog films that have made photo history.

DxO FilmPack 4 also offers numerous original looks, filters, tonings, and visual effects, all of which can be infinitely combined and customized. In addition, 65 renderings and stunning visual effects are available to allow photographers to give their images greater emotional impact and an even more unique style, whether in color or in black & white.

Available in two editions, Essential and Expert, DxO FilmPack v4.0.2 can be installed as a plugin for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 and 5, Photoshop CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6, Photoshop Elements 10 and 11, Apple Aperture 3, and DxO Optics Pro v8.2, and as a standalone application for Mac and Windows — all with the same license.

From DxO:

Support for the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, the Sony SLT-A58, and the Ricoh GR

June 5, 2013 – DxO Labs announces the immediate availability of DxO Optics Pro v8.2, the new version of its image processing software of reference for all demanding photographers, which was recently awarded the coveted 2013 TIPA Prize in the category of Best Photo Software. This update for Mac and Windows allows DxO Optics Pro 8 to support the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, the Sony SLT-A58, and the Ricoh GR, as well as to incorporate all of the new features of DxO FilmPack 4 as a plugin.

DxO Optics Pro v8.2 is able to combine the power of its corrections with the creativity of all the new tools in DxO FilmPack 4 (Expert Edition) in an entirely non-destructive workflow that handles RAW images as well as JPEG.

With DxO FilmPack 4, photographers can apply to their digital photos all the characteristic color, contrast, and grain of analog films that made photographic history, along with many original looks, filters, tonings, and visual effects — all of which can be infinitely combined and customized.

The new tools in DxO FilmPack 4 (Expert Edition) in plugin mode include a new range of effects that can give RAW and JPEG images an even more personal signature. In particular, such new effects as texture, light leaks, and special frames take users even further into the world of analog film photography.

Using DxO FilmPack 4 as a plugin for DxO Optics Pro 8 requires the purchase of a DxO FilmPack 4 license.

New DxO Optics Modules

DxO Optics Pro v8.2 benefits from the continuous development of DxO Optics Modules. 439 new camera/lens combinations now reside in the library, providing support for additional Canon, Carl Zeiss, Konica, Nikkor, Panasonic, Olympus, Sigma, Sony, Tamron, and Tokina lenses for Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh, and Sony cameras.

DxO Optics Modules contain tens of thousands of data points about the intrinsic characteristics and flaws of each camera and lens. This database allows DxO Optics Pro to automatically correct all the optical flaws in RAW and JPEG images – distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations, lens softness – with an unrivaled level of quality.

Availability and prices

The Standard and Elite editions of DxO Optics Pro v8.2 for Mac and Windows are available at authorized photo resellers at a special discount through June 30, 2013:

  • DxO Optics Pro 8 Standard Edition: $99 instead of $169
  • DxO Optics Pro 8 Elite Edition: $199 instead of $299

This upgrade is free for all owners of DxO Optics Pro 8, as well as for photographers who purchased a DxO Optics Pro 7 license on or after September 1, 2012. Other users can go through their customer account to benefit from a special discount on their upgrade through June 30, 2013.
