Canon has made lots of big announcements today ...
 
In my opinion, the new Canon EOS 5D Full Frame Digital SLR is the biggest news. This camera has been rumored for some time with various information "leaks" by Canon. I expect there will be many people interested in a high quality 12.8 megapixel full frame Digital SLR priced in the low $3,000 range. Read the press release at the above link.
 
The other Digital SLR announced is the Canon EOS 1D Mark II N Digital SLR Camera. Can they make the name any longer? While this model replaces the Canon EOS 1D Mark II, there are very few new features - primarily a larger LCD and a larger image buffer. But, the 1DII is still an excellent camera. The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens has now been formerly announced. A detailed press release has not been made available for this lens.
 
The big surprise for me today was the announcement of a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. I heard no rumors of this one - and have no expectations about it. A detailed US press release has not been made available for this lens - the three sentence announcement mentioned a latest generation 3-stop Image Stabilizer. It will replace the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens.
 
Less of a surprise was the announcement of the Canon Speedlite 430EX Flash. I know very little about this flash other than it is better than the still-very-nice Canon Speedlite 420EX Flash it replaces. The press release price sounds high, but that is not unusual.

I am not in the practice of publishing rumors, but I have seen enough information to believe that the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens will be officially announced very soon (Monday?). Check the link above to learn what I expect in this lens.
 
On the official Canon announcement topic, I expect some additional big news next week - maybe Monday. I will put new information online when I get it.

Sorry about the lag in updates - I just got back from a week in the Northern Maine wilderness chasing Moose and Loons. Well, the Moose and Loons proved elusive, but I got lots of great landscape shots. And I survived a week without Internet access. :)
 
Canon has released EOS 20D Firmware Version 2.0.2. This update "Fixes bugs that occurred when using the EOS Capture application." "This firmware update applies to cameras with firmware versions up to 2.0.0 installed. If your camera's firmware is already version 2.0.2, it is not necessary to perform this update."
 
Canon Europe CPS Issue 13 is now online. I always pick up something useful from these articles.
